Closet Confection: In Case You Haven’t Noticed…

wrap dress, black opaque tights, DKNY shoes, whistle necklace, tassle necklace, ebay vintage necklace

When: Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Where: Work

What: Dress (I’d rather not say), tights (Hue), shoes (DKNY via Loehmann’s), whistle & tassle necklaces (vintage via eBay), pendant necklace (H&M)

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been writing the date as 2010 in all of my outfit posts this year until today.  Man, I can’t believe none of you caught that.  You guys must be slipping.

Do you see what I just did there?  Totally flipped the script and made it seem like it was your fault that I don’t know what year it is.  I’m a sneaky little one, aren’t I?

I woke up feeling a little uninspired this morning, so I just reached into my closet and grabbed the first thing I could find and paired it with black tights and black shoes.  And since I had an extra few seconds to spare before dashing out the door (a rare occurrence), I grabbed a handful of necklaces on the way out.  My friends often comment that I always look put together, but it’s actually just a carefully crafted illusion.  While I love to play dress-up in my spare time, I absolutely hate throwing together an outfit when I’m pressed for time.  Over the years, I’ve tried to make my closet as idiot-proof as possible by carefully curating a collection of flattering dresses and fabulous shoes.

If I needed to, I could probably reach into my closet blindfolded and pull out a cute outfit.  I don’t say this to brag about how awesome my clothes are, but more so to highlight the fact that dressing well doesn’t have to require that much effort.  Just careful planning and wise purchasing decisions.

And what about you guys?  What are your go-to items when you’re pressed for time, but still want to look good?

P.S.  I’ve linked this post up with Jewelscapes and The Pleated Poppy!

I totally missed the date thing. Haha. I think having a good closet is key. Why should looking good be hard work.

Black, white and gray in any combination. Black pencil skirt, tights and boots or shoes with a white shirt and gray sweater or gray slacks, white shirt and black sweater or jacket, etc.

You can never go wrong with that combo, IMO. You can even throw in some red accessories to be extra fancy.

And, we’re looking at your fabulous outfits and fun posts – not the date. LOL.

      I guess that’s a good thing, lol! 🙂

    Cute dress and cute shoes!

Wait, we’re in 2011? Whoa, time flies.

Red is one of my favorite colors on you, that dress is gorgeous! Now I’m wondering why you rather not tell though (hmmm….)! Love those necklaces piled on, too.

Time really does seem to fly these days! The dress is from a mass retailer that I recently learned has sucky hiring practices. I no longer shop there, but I didn’t want the dress to go to waste. It’s a shame, because I really like this dress too and would love to get more colors.

Huzzah to flattering dresses and great shoes! I have my friends fooled too. They think I dress up all the time–I know I’m just too lazy to find a skirt/pants and shirt combo, and grab a dress instead.

Adore the necklace combo–especially that cute little whistle!

    Cute outfit!

Your closet must be well organized if you can just pull out a great outfit like that without trying!!

Totally missed the date thing 😉

I do keep it pretty neat. Stay tuned for a 4-part video series on how I organize my closet.

My go-to items are cardigans and dresses!

I can echo everything you said about carefully crafted outfit illusion. My friends too always think I probably take hours getting ready or the fact that I must have tonnes of clothes. When in reality it takes me 10 minutes to get ready with make up and I have less clothes than even my bf let alone my other lady friends. It’s just about careful purchase and planning. I’m so glad I at least found one other person in the world who shares the same ideas. 🙂

This is my first time on your blog and as I’m acquainting myself with your site I would love for us to stay in touch via google/ facebook/ twitter.

Please let me know how you feel about that and look forward to hearing from you

i just realized that i’ve been writing 2010 on EVERYTHING at work, including checks. apparently i’m not good at catching these things.

i’m pretty terrible at assembling outfits on the fly. perhaps i need to a little idiot proofing to my own closet.

    • ClosetConfections January 13, 2011 at 3:29 am

I do the same thing every year without fail. Idiot-proofing your wardrobe definitely has its perks!

(I think I I might have left 2 comments quit similar too, but I thought it was gone when it said: you comment need to be approved by a moderator so sorry about that n_n) anywho, why would you not say where the dress is from? It looks really nice on you(r figure)!

    • ClosetConfections January 25, 2011 at 1:35 pm

No problem. I found out about the manufacturer’s unfair employment practices after purchasing the dress. I didn’t want it to go to waste, but I don’t want to give them free publicity either.

Oh my, I love this outfit too. I’m fancying red these days. Like that you wear brogues of look-a-like? I’ve recently bought a pair in London, I’ve been wearing it senseless.

    • ClosetConfections February 23, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I love red too, but don’t wear it nearly often enough.

Lovely necklace are wearing by you.  The three of the necklace are increasing your beauty in this red dress. Dress is also nice but the ball pendent giving a nice effect to dress.
