The Nine Rooms of Happiness Book Giveaway

NineRooms_COVER_hirez

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending a very special evening of conversation with Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine, and author of The Nine Rooms of Happiness and co-author, Catherine Birndorf, MD.  Even though I was still under the weather from a terrible cold, I managed to enjoy myself and have an amazing time.  The event was hosted by the Y Society, and I was so thoroughly impressed by the event, the people and the organization’s mission that I went ahead and submitted my application to join.  Because as well all know, CLASSY FASHIONISTAS GIVE BACK!

One thing you may not know about me is that I’m an avid reader (I try to devour at least one book per week), and lately my interests have shifted away from murder mysteries into the realm of personal growth and positive thinking (although I will be scooping up the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel) .  As such, I was keenly interested in this particular book which is a definitive guide to loving yourself, finding your purpose, and getting over life’s little imperfections.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

Ask any woman how she’s feeling. Even when she things look pretty great from the outside, chances are that at least one thing is nagging at her. Whether it’s the size of our thighs or our bank accounts, there always seems to be something that isn’t measuring up to our high standards.  In The Nine Rooms of Happiness, Lucy Danziger uses the metaphor of a house to release us from this troubling phenomenon.

  • The Basement: Memories
  • The Family Room: Your nearest and dearest
  • The Living Room: Friendship
  • The Office: When work follows you home
  • The Bathroom: Body image
  • The Bedroom: Intimacy and relationships
  • The Kitchen: Nourishment and the division of chores
  • The Kid’s Room: Parenting
  • The Attic: Expectations

You can also check out the video clip below to learn more about the authors and hear them describe the work in their own words.

I’m just now diving into the book, but of course I have to share the love.  So I’m giving away a signed copy to ONE LUCKY READER!  To enter,  just follow my blog on Google Reader and leave a note in this post’s comments section stating just one area in your life that you’d like to focus on and improve in 2011.   For me, it’s definitely The Kitchen!

The winner will be announced on February 1st!

    How cool!

The office would be my room of choice.

This sounds like a great read, and something I would be very interested in. Love the analogy of different rooms to describe the different facets of every woman’s life. I’m going with living room.

The books is great so far, and the room analogy really helps with tying it all together.

The Kid’s Room: Parenting -working on obtaining a balance-they’re old enough to do things on their own (ie) cleaning-cooking allowing them to grow and if they make mistakes its okay instead I usually take-over so that its done right the first time. I need to learn how to delegate and supervise..

My focus this year is definitely on my career. It needs a jump-start! I’d have to say the office.

Best of luck in getting things jump-started!

For it’s the bathroom…It’s not only about loosing some weigth (although I’m back on my WW diet), but more about feeling amazing in your own body.
I’d love tho have this book 🙂
    P.S I follow with bloglovin.

    • ClosetConfections January 18, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I’ve known a lot of people who’ve had success with WW. And you’re right, feeling amazing in your own body is… well, amazing!

I think I want to improve my bathroom, but this book sounds to be great. And by reading this post I’ve just figure it up that I didn’t read a book since long time ago (that’s not for school)…so after I will finish my exams, a book will be great to relax with. kisses&take.care

I follow you in Google Reader 🙂

I would say that one of my goals for the year is to concentrate and pour my time into my relationships – both The Family and Living Rooms

    • ClosetConfections January 18, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Fantastic goal! I wish you the best of luck.

  • Kristen January 17, 2011 at 4:50 pm

I’m a follower! And one of my goals for 2011 is to develop a stable, healthy relationship (and if not, at least feel better and more optimistic about the dating scene), so I’m going to go with The Bedroom.

  • Keisha January 18, 2011 at 3:09 am

This sounds like a great book, and exactly what I’ve been looking for! This year I need to work on The Bedroom: Intimacy and relationships; I was in a long distance relationship the entire time I was in college, but now that I’m back home it’s time to finally start working on “us.”
And I now follow you on Google Reader 🙂

    • ClosetConfections January 18, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your goals.

  • Lisa January 17, 2011 at 11:43 pm

This seems like a really great read. I would definitely say that I need to work on The Bedroom because I’m not sure what’s happening with my relationship at the moment. So yeah & I’m now following you on Google Reader.

  • Andrea January 18, 2011 at 8:50 am

I’ve been following you on Google reader since I started reading your blog back in April or May 🙂 it’s been fun to see how you’ve truly defined and refined your personal style.

If I don’t win the book I may need to go out and buy it because this is the year that I’m going to take control of my work environment – I would focus on the office!

  • Yacine January 18, 2011 at 10:31 am

Hi, i’ve recently started following your blog, like a month ago i believe and i love how fun and sweet you seem! What i love about your style is that it looks so comfortable and fun at the same time, great job on the blog!
So the area i want to focus on this year is the bathroom and the kitchen! I used to be very self conscious up until 2 years ago, now i love my body and i’ve learned to treat it right, i just want to learn more ways to lead a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle!

    Thank you for this

I love this giveaway! I’m currently working on “Expectations” area of my life. I feel like I’ve come so far over the last few years but I still have my bouts with this area.

  • Ruralglamour January 21, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Following GFC! I need much work in the bathroom!

  • Kakihararocks January 24, 2011 at 8:04 pm

I need work in the Living Room–my husband and I moved to a different state a few years ago–and then I got really sick and lost touch with all my old friends–and i don’t work so I don’t really know anyone where I live–I adore my husband and he is my best friend–problem is he is my only friend –and he prefers it that way–it’s just not so healthy!

  • Tayjorcolmar January 24, 2011 at 8:22 pm

The family room. My mom passed in August and I’ve realized that I have to interact with everyone differently especially my dad because he has moved on.

  • MmeDressLover January 28, 2011 at 12:38 am

I need to fortify more than one really important room in my “home”, particularly the Living Room, Family Room and the Office. Yeah, I know…I need a really good contractor. (Am I getting carried away with this metaphor??) A number of circumstances plus some personal weaknesses have added up to a really worn down structure that I’m living in right now… If I had to pick one it would be the Family Room, since that affects the others. This book sounds like it could offer some insight. And the figurative language is obviously working for me… thanks for offering this giveaway!

I need to work on more than one room, put particularly my bathroom…ever since I had baby (well, maybe even before then, but moreso now) I have nothing good to say about my body. Blogs like this give me hope to get as much confidence as you, and pick up some good style tips along the way… it’s working slowly but surely, maybe this book will give me a lil push in the right direction.
