Closet Confection: Black Cat, Nine Lives

2010_1014_outfit1

When: Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Where: Work

What: Trench (H&M), dress ($35 Kenneth Cole via Loehmann’s), tights (Forever 21), shoes (Vince Camuto via Loehmann’s), handbag ($99 Cole Haan via RueLaLa)

Taking outfit photos during this time of the year is proving to be a bit of a challenge.  My *photographer* is up and out of the house before I’m even awake, and by the time I get home from work it’s pitch black outside.

I live in a green building, which means incredible sunlight during the day from my floor-to-ceiling windows, but ZERO overhead lights in my apartment (aside from the kitchen and bathroom).  The flourescent lighting in the hallways and common areas haven’t exactly yielded spectacular results either.  I couldn’t even share the pics from my birthday outfit on Monday with you guys 🙁

I’m considering purchasing a tripod (need to do that anyway) and taking photos of myself during my lunch break.  But I’m a little nervous that this will open up a can of worms with my co-workers who may think I’m a narcissistic freak who takes photos of herself everyday.  Or perhaps I’m just worrying to much and they already think that about me since I do indeed take photos of myself everyday.

Hmmm… something to chew on.

In any case, my week of all things leopard is wrapping up nicely.  I think these tights are my favorite since they can take an otherwise pretty tame outfit and turn it into something a little more daring.

I worked with a girl a few years back who had a pair, and I have to say I was startled when I first saw them.  I only caught a glance of her legs out of the corner of my eye, and I thought she had developed some terrible skin disease.  Then I took a closer look and thought they were the coolest thing ever.  Unfortunately, she wasn’t really known for being a team player and I never found out where she got them.

Ok, enough ramblings for now.  Excuse me while I go rock out to Janet (or Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty).

Closet Confection: Expect the Unexpected

2010_1013_outfit4

When: Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Where: Work

What: Turtleneck (Uniqlo), skirt ($40 Banana Republic), shoes ($13 Irregular Choice via Daffy’s), belt ($20 Oscar de la Renta via Century 21)

It’s Day 2 of my leopard-themed week, and I have to say that this belt gave me a little more trouble than I thought it would.  It’s funny, because I assumed it would be the easiest item to style. Just throw it on with a black dress and go, right?

Wrong!

Of course when I woke up yesterday morning, I just didn’t feel like wearing all black.  I mean, that would just be too simple for a day when I needed to be out of the house by 6:30am.  So instead, I opted for a bright blue pencil skirt.

And to tie it all together, I just had to make sure there were cute unicorns and flowers on the bottoms of my shoes.

Slightly tamer than my other Irregular Choice heels, but still awesome!

Closet Confection: If At First You Don’t Succeed… Add a Pop of Color!

2010_1012_outfit1

When: Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Where: Work + Dinner @ Bouchon Bakery in the Time Warrner Center

What: Jacket (Kenneth Cole via Century 21), dress (Forever 21), cardigan ($22 Banana Republic), shoes ($40 Jessica Simpson via Filene’s Basement), handbag ($60 Kenneth Cole via Loehmann’s)

I purchased this sweater at Banana Republic a loooong time ago, but I could never figure out a good way to wear it.  It looked a little too blah with jeans. Next, I had high hopes for pairing it with this dress, but that turned into a washed out disaster.  So this sweater sat tucked away in my drawer for over a year…

Then I had an epiphany!

I was approaching this thing all wrong by sticking with a monochromatic color scheme.  What I needed was a pop of color.

And of course a pair of leopard accented heels for good measure.

Now that’s more like it!
