Closet Confection: Unicorns On My Shirt

2010_1223_outfit1

When: Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Where: Work

What: Top ($14 Forever 21), Skirt ($20 Gap), tights (Trina Turk for Hue via Century 21), ankle boots ($50 Vince Camuto via Loehmann’s), jacket ($60 Nine West via Century 21), scarf (street vendor), hat (JC Penney), gloves (UGG Australia)

I saw this shirt in Forever 21 and did a double-take.  As you may or may not know, I have a penchant for magical creatures on my clothing as evidenced here and here.

I usually try to act all adult and sophisticated in my daily interactions, but occasionally I’ll see something that’s just so stinkin’ cute that I’m forced to embrace my inner-child.

And to top it all off, this shirt is made out of a super warm waffle-knit material that helped keep me nice and toasty all day long.  I don’t want to take it off.  And who knows, I may even sleep in it.

Closet Confection: Brooching the Subject

2010_1220_outfit1

When: Monday, December 21st, 2010

Where: Work

What: Sweater ($30 Tommy Hilfiger), skirt ($20 Forever 21), shoes ($20 No. 902B via Filene’s Basements), tights (Forever 21), knit headband ($10 street vendor), coat (Guess via Burlington Coat Factory), scarf (Forever 21), brooches (Forever 21, H&M and Laila Rowe)

Guys, in case you haven’t noticed…

I have a big head!

Yeah, I know it only looks like an inch or two (depending on the size of your computer screen), but it’s fairly large in person. Combine this with the fact that my hair has a tendency to grow out rather than down, and I often have trouble finding hats that are large enough to accommodate my dome. But I think I’ve finally found the solution in this adjustable knit headband.

Not only is it warm, but it also keeps my ponytail from getting smashed. Score! I will be snatching these up in multiple colors ASAP.  Or even better, I could learn to knit them myself.  Ooooh, I think I just gave myself the chills.

Sidebar, don’t I look super-devious (or drunk) in the photo above?  I promise I wasn’t plotting anything sinister… nor did I have a 3-martini lunch break. Two’s just enough for me, thank you very much.

I’ve mentioned before that I’ wanted to finally try out tights with peep-toe shoes.  So like any sensible young lady, I waited until the temps dropped below freezing to do so.  Don’t worry, I switched into warm and toasty boots during my commute. See that? I am sensible after all.

And now for the burning question on everyone’s mind and the impetus for this post’s title:

How many brooches can Kendra cram into one outfit?

One? Two? Three?

2010_1220_outfit7

Let’s try FOUR!  One on my headband, and three on my shirt.  As we all know, I do love a lady-like brooch pinned on my blouse.  So this time around, I decided to go for the gold and just pile on a bunch.  It was a little noisy, but I loved the extra touch of sparkle.

What do you think, should I go for 5 next time?

Oh, and by the way, it’s TUMBLR TUESDAY!  So here’s your chance to recommend me in the fashion directory!

I’ve also linked this post up with Jewelscapes Bejeweled Wednesdays!

Closet Confection: On the Prowl

2010_1208_outfit4

When: Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Where: Work

What: Sweater (H&M), dress (Forever 21), boots (Nine West via Filene’s Basement)

It was a gorgeous 65 degrees and sunny when I took these pictures last week.  In fact, it got so warm that I shucked my sweater and went out for some icecream during my lunch break.

Ha! I wish!

Don’t let the sunglasses fool you.  It was actually more like 35 degrees, but I was trying to think warm thoughts as I quickly snapped these photos.  As the temperature continues to dip this winter, I’m all about bundling up in cozy wrap cardigans in warm knits like the one I’m wearing here.

And what about you guys?  I’d love to hear your plans for staying warm while looking stylish this winter.
