Zara is having a pretty friggin’ awesome sale right now!

After searching high and low for a long plaid vintage skirt, I struck gold when I found this little number for $40 marked down from $80.  I love it so much that I’ve worn it twice in the last week: Once with a burgundy turtleneck and again as you see it here.

Excuse me as I enjoy my retro moment.

Closet Confection: In Bold Print

nine west cardigan, graphic print dress, brown opaque tights, brown suede shoes

When: Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

Where: Work

What: Cardigan (Nine West via Filene’s Basement), dress (Strawberry), tights (Calvin Klein), shoes (Nicole Miller via Filene’s Basement)

I am sooooo over winter it’s not even funny!  Yesterday we got hit with another 7 inches of snow, and I was not a happy camper.  To shake away some of the winter blahs, I went for a bold graphic print.  It helped some, but I definitely would have preferred to be lying on a white sand beach somewhere in the Caribbean with a piña colada in hand.

Perhaps I’ll have my own indoor beach party this weekend.  What do you think?  I can crank up the thermostat to 85, throw on a couple of Bay Watch reruns, and lounge around the house in my bathing suit.

Perhaps I should take my Christmas tree down first…

Closet Confection: In Case You Haven’t Noticed…

wrap dress, black opaque tights, DKNY shoes, whistle necklace, tassle necklace, ebay vintage necklace

When: Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Where: Work

What: Dress (I’d rather not say), tights (Hue), shoes (DKNY via Loehmann’s), whistle & tassle necklaces (vintage via eBay), pendant necklace (H&M)

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been writing the date as 2010 in all of my outfit posts this year until today.  Man, I can’t believe none of you caught that.  You guys must be slipping.

Do you see what I just did there?  Totally flipped the script and made it seem like it was your fault that I don’t know what year it is.  I’m a sneaky little one, aren’t I?

I woke up feeling a little uninspired this morning, so I just reached into my closet and grabbed the first thing I could find and paired it with black tights and black shoes.  And since I had an extra few seconds to spare before dashing out the door (a rare occurrence), I grabbed a handful of necklaces on the way out.  My friends often comment that I always look put together, but it’s actually just a carefully crafted illusion.  While I love to play dress-up in my spare time, I absolutely hate throwing together an outfit when I’m pressed for time.  Over the years, I’ve tried to make my closet as idiot-proof as possible by carefully curating a collection of flattering dresses and fabulous shoes.

If I needed to, I could probably reach into my closet blindfolded and pull out a cute outfit.  I don’t say this to brag about how awesome my clothes are, but more so to highlight the fact that dressing well doesn’t have to require that much effort.  Just careful planning and wise purchasing decisions.

And what about you guys?  What are your go-to items when you’re pressed for time, but still want to look good?

P.S.  I’ve linked this post up with Jewelscapes and The Pleated Poppy!
