Closet Confection: Eighties Baby

vintage 80s sweater, black corduroys, chanel slingback pumps

When: Originally worn on Friday, January 7th, 2010 (but the pics were taken on Sunday, the 9th)

Where: Work (for like 30 minutes before I got super sick and had to go back home)

What: sweater ($10 No Relation Vintage), corduroys ($20 Uniqlo), belt ($20 Michael Kors via TJ Maxx), shoes (Chanel via eBay), sunglasses (Forever 21), necklace (H&M)

After spending 2 days at home in bed with the flu, I got cabin fever and decided to venture into the office last Friday. Big mistake! I was really in no shape to leave the house. But being the stubborn woman that I am, I decided to give it a go anyway.  Interspersed within today’s outfit pics is a play-by-play of how my morning went.

  • 6:15am  My alarm clock goes off, and I wake up to find that I’m dripping in sweat even though the bedroom is a comfortable 70 degrees.
  • 6:30am  Still groggy from the NyQuil I took the night before, I finally manage to stumble out of bed to get showered and ready.
  • 7:15am  I lamely attempt to apply makeup to coverup a red, chafed nose and dark under-eye circles.  After deciding I look even worse, I proceed to wash off the makeup and just go au naturel
  • 7:25am  I should really leave now to catch the 7:30 bus, but I can’t find my keys.

  • 7:32am  I still can’t find my keys, and I look outside my window just in time to catch a glimpse of the 7:30 bus pulling away.
  • 7:38am  With no keys in sight, I decide to leave without them and hopefully catch the 7:40 bus.  Only after the door clicks shut behind me, do I realize that my wallet is inside the apartment.
  • 7:39am  In denial that this could really be happening, I dump all of the contents of my purse onto the hallway floor and frantically dig through them, hoping to find my wallet.
  • 7:41am  Slightly dizzy from sinus pressure, I give up and resign myself to the fact that I will have to survive on $3 all day. I also cry a little inside.

  • 7:42am  I get outside just in time to see the 7:40 bus pull off.  I mumble a few not-so-ladylike phrases under my breath and struggle to breathe out of one nostril.
  • 7:50am  I get on the super duper late bus.
  • 7:52am  The woman next to me moves to another seat, but not before giving me a dirty look as I sneeze uncontrollably.
  • 7:56am  I get to the subway station and pray that by some miracle I can actually get a seat on the train…

  • 7:59am  The train arrives, and the only open seat is next to a homeless man.  I decide he needs his space and attempt to sleep while standing.
  • 8:45am  I arrive at work 15 minutes late with a purse full of used tissues.
  • 9:35am  After sneezing my way through our morning meeting, my head is pounding and my co-workers are keeping their distance from me like I have the plague.  I can’t really blame them, so I decide to just go home and beg my doorman to let me into my apartment without charging me the $20 lock-out fee.
  • 11:00am  I am back in bed… where I should have stayed in the first place.

When: Monday, December 27th, 2010

Where: Working from home during a major snowstorm!

What: Sweater (Vintage store in San Francisco), leggings (Wolford + Uniqlo… yeah, I’m layering), boots (Coach, also available here), gloves (Ugg Australia via Century 21), hat (H&M), sunglasses (Marc Jacobs via Nordstrom’s Rack), scarf (self-made), coat (Kenneth Cole via Macy’s, similar here)

Here at Closet Confections, we take our winter gear very seriously…

Ok, not so much.  But I do appreciate staying warm and cozy when it’s F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G outside.

My husband made fun of me incessantly when I first bought this hat.  He told me I looked like Don King, but he was soon eating those words when we got slammed by a blizzard.  Perhaps I did look like I had stuck a fork in an electrical socket, but at least I was warm.

To make it up to me, he let me borrow the scarf that I knit him for Christmas.  He’s really sweet like that.

Here’s me decked out in all my glory.  This was my first time taking my new snow boots out for a spin, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed.  They provide the warmth and comfort of Uggs (yes, I admit that I am a fashion blogger who wears Uggs), but they’re also waterproof.

I really wanted to make a snowman to pose with, but the wind was really gusty and snow was blowing everywhere. So as soon as we got enough good shots, I rushed back inside for hot cocoa.

Closet Confection: It Takes Two To Make It Outta Sight

2010_1108_outfit3

When: Monday, November 8th, 2010

Where: Work

What: Coat (Miss Sixty via Burlington Coat Factory), hat (Forever 21), shirt ($10 vintage and thrifted), dress ($20 Ben Sherman via Daffy’s), belt (???), tights ($6 Emilio Cavalli via Daffy’s), shoes ($50 Vince Camuto via Loehmann’s)

I’m only two days in and this 30 for 30 remix is already starting to have its perks.

2010_1108_outfit2

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve become way more obsessive over accessories… to the point where I’ve laid out my entire work wardrobe for the rest of the week all the way down to the earrings.

And because I love making lists, I of course have this all typed out in a tidy little excel spreadsheet.

It’s a sickness, don’t even try and help me.

In any case, my propensity toward excel spreadsheets helped me out immensely this morning as I was getting ready for work.  The daylight savings time switcheroo completely screwed with the alarm clock setting on my iPhone, leaving me with, horror of horrors, only 15 minutes to get ready for work this morning. Eek!

Luckily, I was able to pull together a well thought-out ensemble in no time at all by consulting my handy little list.

In other fashion news, I’ll let you guys in on a little secret…

I purchased this shirt in the little boys’ section of one of my favorite vintage thrift stores.  Since I consider myself to be a curvy gal, shopping in the kids’ section never really occured to me until I stumbled upon this shirt. I didn’t even realize it was a boy’s shirt until I went to try it on and noticed the buttons were on the wrong side and there were collar stays still left in.

2010_1108_outfit4

My husband had to explain to me what collar stays were.  And after he did, I was all kinds of jealous.  Why don’t women’s shirts come with collar stays?  Why do we have to be the ones stuck with floppy, droppy collars?

I’m just sayin’…

And lest I forget, I couldn’t possibly give this post the above title without dropping a funky track.  With that being said…

One, Two, Three… Hit It!
