After being married for over thirteen years, Eric and I have more than our fair share of traditions. One of my favorites is our annual trek upstate to view the fall foliage. This year’s road trip coincided with my birthday, and I was lucky enough to receive the greatest gift of all: Sharing the experience with my baby boy, Christian!  He was a champ during the entire 8-hour roundtrip car ride and didn’t fuss one bit. Just a few months old, and he’s already making his mama proud…

Since the weather was a bit chillier in the Adirondacks, I made sure to pack lots of cozy knits like this striped funnel neck sweater I recently purchased at Zara. I fell in love with the preppy nautical stripes and button details along the neck. The weather predicted lots of misty fog and sporadic rain showers which made the perfect excuse to put my new rain jacket (also from Zara) to good use. I never can resist good outerwear (bonus points if it comes in a classic tartan), and this piece did not disappoint. It’s lightweight – which makes it great for travel – and kept me nice and dry during a few unexpected rain showers.

Hello, Detroit!

Hey Gang!

As I mentioned briefly in my last post, I’m just getting back from my family reunion in Detroit, followed by a brief stint in Chicago.  I decided to take a break from blogging while  I was away, but now I’m back with a vengeance, i.e., prepare to bombarded with photo-heavy posts over the next couple of days!

I prefer to not pay exorbitant baggage fees travel light, so I stuck to a pastel color theme while packing for this trip (more on that later).  I wore the above outfit for a family BBQ out at Kensington Metropark, and I’m happy to report that I made it through the entire day with ZERO bbq sauce stains.

The following are a few photo highlights from the first leg of our trip…

The reunion was a 3-day affair, and this year’s banquet was held on a riverboat cruise.  Check out the ahhh-mazing view we got of the Detroit skyline…

The blue-trimmed buildings in the middle make up the Renaissance Center (locally known as the RenCen) and is home to GM’s world headquarters.

One of my family members is a historian and genealogist, and this is one of several books he’s written about tracing family history.

And here’s the whole crew!  We hold these reunions every two years in different cities, and it’s always so great to see everyone all in the same place.
