30 for 30 Roundup: Outfits 1-6

30_for_30_3

Happy Monday Everyone!

I’m happy to report that I survived my first week of remixing without a hitch.  But from this point forward is where things get interesting.  Today I’m wearing a skirt that I wore last week, and it feels… weird!  I typically go at least 2-3 weeks before repeating items in my closet. So this is definitely new territory for me.

In celebration of making it through my first 6 outfits, I also wanted to recognize my top 6 blogger pics from last week.  In no particular order:

  • Lauren from Magic Happens channels Paul Bunyan in the cutest of plaid shirts
  • A Pretty Penny adds spice to a simple jeans/tee combo with a gorgeous vintage scarf
  • What Would a Nerd Wear looks oh-so-charming in OTK socks paired with a girly dress
  • The Daybook keeps her cool while braving the snow in bold stripes
  • 26 and Counting is super cute in a floral dress that almost made the cut in my own 30 for 30 lineup
  • A Simple Life adds her own spin to the now-famous lace skirt from Target

I am slowly but surely making my way through the list of remixers on Kendi’s site (there are a lot of ya’ll)!  My goal is to check everyone out at least once.  So far, this has been a worthwhile pursuit, and I’ve found some great blogs that I plan to continue following beyond this challenge.

And what about you guys?  What great blogs have you discovered during this challenge, and what were some of your favorite looks from last week?

    Closet Confection: Sixth Sense

    2010_1112_outfit1

    When: Friday, November 12th, 2010

Where: Work + Business Awards Gala

What: Coat (Miss Sixty), headband (H&M), cashmere sweater (old navy), skirt ($36 Gap w/ 40% discount), floral pendant (h&m), tights (???), shoes (Via Spiga)

In case you missed the memo, apparently turbans are all the rage right now… at least according to the New York Times.

To be honest, when I first noticed the trend I was surprised.  For years, I’ve been tying my hair up in a similar fashion (always with a silk scarf) before I go to bed or when I’m doing chores around the house.  It just never occurred to me to make it a fashion statement and actually wear it out in public.

Then I found this awesome ear warmer/headband at H&M and was immediately sold.  However, a “certain member” of my household still needed convincing.

The first time I wore it, the ensuing conversation went a little something like this:

    Him: Who are you?

    Me: What do you mean?

Him: You look like a gypsy.  What is this?

Me: That’s no way to get your 3 wishes…

    Him: Hmmm… I guess you’re right.

I’m not worried.  I think it adds a touch of old-school glamour to my ensembles, and it’ll grow on him eventually.

On a side note, the most random thing happened while taking pictures this afternoon.  I was at my usual, somewhat-secluded, blocked off side street trying to discreetly take photos of myself when THREE CONVERTIBLE FERRARIS decide to pull up and gun their engines right alongside me!  I’m not sure where they thought they were going since the street is closed to traffic, but they of course drew a small crowd of onlookers while I was standing there posing for the camera.

    aaa8

If ever there was a time for me to get over my shyness about taking my own photos in public, that was it!  In any case, the driver in the red car was kind enough to ask if he was ruining my shot and then politely offered to back up a few feet.

Do any of you have any weird or interesting stories about things that happened while taking outfit photos out in public?  If so, please share ‘cuz I’d love to hear them!

    Closet Confection: Take Five!

    2010_1111_outfit1

    When: Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Where: Work + The Green Table @ Chelsea Market

What: Jacket (French Connection), sweater (Tommy Hilfiger), polka dot blouse (H&M), skirt (Banana Republic), tights (Urban Outfitters), shoes (Via Spiga)

Is anyone else bummed because they didn’t get Veteran’s Day off yesterday?

To cheer myself up for having to drag myself out of bed and into the office, I decided to wear a bright pink sweater.  And of course, the outfit wouldn’t have been complete without polka dots… and a big ‘ol floppy bow… and my favorite colorful tweed jacket.

Since Eric had the day off (lucky duck!), I guilted him into meeting me after work to help take my outfit photos.

He was a trooper about it.  But in exchange, I had to bribe him with NYC’s most delicious brownies from Fat Witch Bakery.  YUM!
