How to Wear Gingham {Without Looking Like a Picnic Table}

Ok, ok… so maybe I do look like a picnic table. I’m totally ok with that.

If you follow me on Instagram (which you should, because I post pretty pictures… and I don’t bite), then you’ll remember this dress from my live story in the Macy’s fitting room. I scored it for a whopping $28 – which is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. I enjoy the fact that it’s office-friendly, but still keeps me cool during these hot, sticky NYC summers. I know that most of my blogging brethren are on to fall fashion at this point, but I’m still happily in a summer state of mind. And as long as the temps keep hovering in the 80s and 90s, then I’ll keep on dressing accordingly. My sweaters and tights are still safely tucked away, and I’m in no hurry to unpack them for now. So bring on the gingham dresses – and matching sandals – and party on!hilfiger-gingham-dress-3how to wear gingham-dresshow to wear-j-crew-gingham-sandals-6

Like any New Yorker, brunch is a meal that I take very seriously. While I do enjoy venturing out to discover new places, over there years there remain a handful of trusted spots that I return to again and again… and again, lol! Landmarc definitely falls into the latter category. Way back when Eric and I first got married and lived in Washington Heights, we’d zip down to midtown nearly every Saturday morning for a plateful of Landmarc’s pancakes or pain perdu (the most delectable, gravity-defying french toast you’ve ever experienced). And while the food is absolutely delicious, the part I always look forward to the most are the amazing house-made caramels that the server brings with your check. They also have free cotton candy for kids… buuuuutttt rumor has it that adults can get in on the action too if they ask really, really nicely!

If you ever visit, be sure to try and snag a seat by the window overlooking Central Park. In addition to brunch fare, they also make a pretty tasty burger and french onion soup (or try the daily pasta special or a nice pot of mussels)… and if you’re really partying it up, get one of each on the dessert menu, and thank me later!
