Lord & Taylor Ultimate Facelift Event… Plus CC's 1st Giveaway!

lordtaylor_alordtaylor_dlordtaylor_blordtaylor_clordtaylor_e

Hola Chicas!

Monday evening, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Lord & Taylor’s exclusive hard-hat preview of their new makeup counter launching this fall.  Picture me and about 30 other bloggers decked out in pink hard hats as we traipsed around the main floor of the 5th Avenue flagship store.  All I can say is thank you to the lovely folks at Chictopia for extending the invitation.

I consider myself to be a bit makeup challenged, so it was great speaking to the experts and getting their advice on how to amp up my glam factor.  Folks, trust me when I say that the new renovation makes choosing the right look virtually fool-proof.   According to Estee Lauder, a whopping 95% of ladies are wearing the wrong foundation for their skin tone!  Their solution: customizable lighting to mimic the environment where you’ll be wearing your makeup.

For those of you who are a little more self-assured and know exactly what you want, Clinique unveiled a new self-service station with the promise that if you carry around one of the little wire baskets, the sales associates will leave you alone and let you shop in peace.

For me, the highlight was the Lancome counter which features the world’s first mascara bar and is fully stocked with all 117 shades of their foundation available in 10-day sample sizes so that you can try before you commit.

Of course, there were plenty of samples and goodie bags to go around.  I’m a skincare and bath product junkie so couldn’t wait to dig into the face masks and body washes when I got home.  However, since I am still somewhat clueless when it comes to makeup (despite all the education I received at the event), I haven’t even touched the lipsticks, blush, eyeshadows and mascara.  My loss is your gain since I seriously smell a makeup giveaway coming on…

Wait for it…

My random make-up tip is to have fun with color! A lot of women of color still shy away from certains colors in the rainbow when it comes to mascara. Many of those colors are actually the very ones that you want to make your eyes pop and to grab everyone’s attention or adoration, whichever one suits your fancy! So say hello to bright blues, greens, purples, oranges, and others.

I’m no make-up expert, but the “less is more” look works for me. 🙂 btw the dress you’re wearing is cute!

I love make up but I am currently exploring different blushes and lipsticks. My advice to you is start off with something simple like mascara, lipstick or a little blush.

My makeup tip is to wear a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation in the summer time. That has saved my life this hot, sticky summer!

    I’m also a fan of minimal make-up.
I like a lipstick pop and just a bit of eyeliner/mascara.
Though, occasionally I’ll add some blush and eye shadow for special, nighttime events.

Ok, this giveaway is so great for me 🙂 I am so LOST when it comes to what products to buy and how to use them, but I could turn over a new leaf!! This could be the beginning of a great relationship with some products!

    Hello!

And I love makeup! My favourite tips include: using a lipstick as a base for blush, and putting white pencil in the inside corner of your eye to make them brighter.

(P.S., I’m based in Australia, just incase this rules out my entry)

    What an amazing event!

Make-up tip: Applying Primer after your moisterizer, but before you apply make-up makes it go on smoother and your make-up will look as fresh at the end of the day as it did at the begining : )

I already follow you on twitter and now follow you on FB! 🙂

My best make-up tip that I learned from a pro recently was, when applying concealer for those under eye circles (my major problem) make sure to use a brush to apply and be sure to include the inside corner of your eyes/side of your nose, curving up to the inside of your top lid! It instantly brightens the eyes.

oooh, i’m plagued by under eye circles (runs deep in the family gene pool), so i’ll definitely be trying this one!

My make-up tip is … you know how experts say to add some shiny gloss to the center of your lips to make them look fuller? I’ve found that if you put some Clinique “Sugar Sugar” eyeshadow in the center of your eyelid it does the same thing! Just a little goes a long way …

My best makeup tip & secret is to always apply a primer! I’ve tried several different ones of all price points & my favorite (and unconventional) primer of choice is…….(brace yourself)…….Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel! I read about it being used as a primer on a blog & tried it just for the heck of it. Hands down, one of th best and it’s only $6. I do feel a bit weird traveling with it but I’ve gotten all my friends hooked on it. LOL! A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do for flawless makeup!

Wow! That is a great tip. I never would have thought to try that.

  • Kellgregs August 25, 2010 at 1:41 pm

My best make up tip is applying blush. I read once that to make your face look thinner to apply blush just behind the apples of your cheeks instead of ON them, as most people do. This works wonders for my round face shape!

  • Aenross August 26, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Hi Kendra, stumbled across your blog in a long train of links and wow am I ever glad – what a find! I hope I’m not too late to enter 🙂 (@aenross, Ashleigh Ross)

I’m a less is more girl but I often have dark circles under my eyes and while I can usually get away with concealing them, I find a nice finishing touch is to add a little brightness on the inside corners of my eyes. I usually do this by applying a light coloured powder with a small brush or fingertip in and around the inside corners. It gives an extra luminance to the eye which becomes a new focal point – so long darkness! Add some mascara and you’re bright-eyed and bushy tailed again!

Keep up the great work, I’ll be following 🙂

Nope, you’re not too late 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

  • Lady J August 26, 2010 at 5:03 pm

I am not much of a makeup queen, so I don’t have a tip. However, I say for the ladies that want to look polished and put together keeing your eyebrowns done is key. That with a little mascara and your favorite lipgloss or chapstick even is a quick way to almost efforless beauty!

  • Emily B August 26, 2010 at 7:36 pm

I love looking at your choices for the day! It inspires me to actually dress up instead of falling into “comfortable college” wear.

I don’t wear a lot of make-up but I usually love a pretty brown eyeshadow and then I’ll accent with silver as a sort of liner along the sides. It really gives an goddess-y look that I love!
