DIY Sweater Headwrap

For my 4th assignment in the Jane By Design Style Challenge, I was tasked with turning an ugly holiday sweater into something fabulous. Keep reading for step-by-step instructions on how the whole process went down…

As you can see, my starting point left a lot to be desired!

Below is a list of the tools that I used for this project. But honestly, all you need are the first 4 items:

  1. An old sweater
  2. Scissors
  3. Needle & Thread
  4. Ruler
  5. Rotary Cutter & Board
  6. Tailors Chalk

  1. First, I laid my sweater out flat and cut a 6X18 inch strip off the bottom.
  2. Then, I folded the strip in half lengthwise and stitched the edges together by hand. At this point, I had a tube of fabric. I sewed one end of the tube shut and turned the tube inside out to hide the stiches.
  3. Next, I cut a little U-Shape into the other end of the tube (apologies for not getting a good interim pic of this step). I then stiched it all together so that I was left with the little hole in the middle that you see in the picture.
  4. Finally, I pulled one end of the tube through the small hole I made and stiched it into place.

Since crafting isn’t really my strong suit, the entire project took me about an hour. I imagine that someone a little more handy with a needle and thread could probably complete this in about half the time.

Got any interesting DIY projects to share? If so, feel free to drop me a line in the comments. Or better yet, post it on the Jane By Design Facebook Page to help me win this challenge. It’s great exposure for your blog AND it can help you get one step closer to being featured on the ABC.com as Trendsetter of the Week!
