Get the Look: Bright Red Winter Coats

REDCOATS

For my 7th and final assignment, I had to pick a character from last night’s Jane By Design premier and show all you readers how to get their look.  Since it’s currently FREEZING in New York City, I definitely had coats on the brain!  After sorting through all of the characters’ ensembles, I was mostly drawn to Gray Chandler Murray’s bright red coat.

New Yorkers are world-reknowned for their love of all-black.  And while I generally consider that aspect of city life to be kinda cool, the lack of color can make things pretty drab and dreary during the dead of winter.  With that being said, I love the idea of sporting a cheery coat in a vivid hue amongst a see of black and grey.

Notice anything salty interesting about my necklace and earrings?  Yep, they’re made of pretzels!  And boy are they making me thirsty!*

Before you think I’ve completely gone off the deep end, let me explain why I’m wearing junk food for accessories.  For my 6th assignment (only 1 more left to go!) in the Jane By Design Style Challenge, I was given several packs of pretzels and told to make something fashionable.  So I took my pretzels, painted them with nail polish and made the jewelry you see here.

Stay tuned next week for a healthier option where I turn a head of lettuce into a handbag…

Look #1: {Port Authority Shirt, Tommy Hilfiger Skirt, Zara Skirt, Vince Camuto Booties, Forever 21 Sunglasses, Vintage Earrings}
Look #2: {Port Authority Shirt, Express Skirt, Michael Kors Shoes, Forever 21 Necklace, Clutch & Sunglasses}

For my 5th assignment in the Jane By Design Style Challenge, I had to take a plain white button-up shirt and style 2 looks: one for daytime and one for nighttime.

I decided to do a somewhat preppy take for my daytime look with a v-neck sweater and pleated navy skirt.  I’ve worn similar outfits both to work and for hanging out on the weekends.  A classic look like this pretty much never goes out of style and can be pulled together on short notice.  The bright colors and peep-toe booties help punch up the look and keep it from being boring.

For my evening look, I attempted to channel a little Carolina Herrera by popping the collar and rolling up the sleeves.  The little white shirt is her signature look for myriad occasions, and it’s easy to see why.  The ruffled pencil skirt, crocodile clutch, and bejeweled bib necklace lend understated sophistication to this ensemble.
