Closet Confection: What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear?

2010_1004_outfit1

When: Monday, October 4th, 2010

Where: Work

What: Blouse ($25 Tucker for Target), skirt ($35 Tucker for Target), brooch (H&M), shoes (Nine West)

Laying out my outfits ahead of time has been paying off big time so far this week!  I kid you not when I say that I think it makes me a lot more productive at work when I don’t have to scramble around for something to wear in the morning.  Instead, I can sleep in a little extra and just take my time getting ready and collecting my thoughts.

This particular outfit is one of my favorites for a few reasons.

#1: Pattern Mixing. It’s something I’ve been wanting to try, but I hadn’t found the right combo… until now.

#2: Ladylike Brooch. Not too long ago, I went on a brooch/pendant kick, and I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate them into my outfits.  An old episode of Murder She Wrote originally sparked the idea of pinning one to a bow-tied blouse à la Jessica Fletcher.

#3: Current website obsession. Last, but certainly not least, this outfit was inspired by my new favorite fashion website: What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear. Until now, I had been slightly embarrassed to admit how much I love the way Emma dresses on Glee. Then I stumbled across this site and learned that I’m not the only one… not by a mile.  If you love ultra-feminine, colorful, slightly retro, work-appropriate looks then definitely check out this site.

And ummm… yeah… I also have this blouse in another print, as seen here.

Closet Confection: October Resolution

2010_1001_outfit2

When: Friday, October 1st, 2010

Where: Korean BBQ @ Shilla

What: Jacket (Kenneth Cole via Century 21), shirt ($25 Heritage 1981), skirt ($60 Zara), necklace (Forever 21), handbag (Tommy Hilfiger via Filene’s Basement), shoes (Charlotte Russe)

Soooo… I was looking over my outfit posts for the past couple of weeks, and I noticed that I haven’t been posting that many work ensembles lately.  The truth is, they haven’t really been much to write home about.  You see, I’ve been stuck in sort of a style rut.

Hey, sometimes it happens even to the best of us.

So when I got home from work on Friday night, I decided to glam it up a little bit for dinner.  It felt really good to put on a sparkly necklace and shiny patent leather heels.

I felt like ME again!

After thinking about it, I realized that my style rut was just a symptom of other areas of my life being out of balance.  I’ve been really busy juggling a lot of things at work and at home, and I was feeling sort of run down.  As a result, I haven’t been working out or eating the best. It’s hard to look good when you feel like crap.

So, I’ve decided that October will be my month for getting things back on track.  I’ve had a lot of items on my to-do list for ages now, and it’s time to start checking them off.

First item on the agenda: Get a new camera!

Ever since I started this blog, I’ve wanted to upgrade to a DSLR.  After weeks of research (thanks Ken Rockwell!) and budgeting, I got a phenomenal deal on a Nikon D40 on eBay.

Bear with me in the coming weeks and months as we figure out how to use this thing!

Closet Confection: O-range Ya Glad To See Me?

2010_09_outfit2

When: Blanking on the date, but some time in September

Where: Work + Dinner in Union Square

What: Dress ($30 Milly thrifted via Beacon’s Closet), necklace ($8 vintage via eBay), shoes (Nicole Miller)

I think this dress is one of my favorite thrift store finds.  If my entire wardrobe came from Milly, I think I’d be cool with that.  I love Michelle Smith’s colorful, classic, feminine designs just that much.  I’m not sure why anyone would give this dress up, but their loss is my gain!
