Closet Confection: The End of the Road

closet confection outfit of the day: the end of the road

When: Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Where: Hangin’ out in the city

What: Dress ($5 H&M), belt ($28 Anthropologie), handbag ($99 Elliott Lucca via Loehmann’s), sandals (???), earrings (Forever21)

Can you believe this dress was only $5?!  Actually, it was $4.95 to be exact.  It very well may be a bathing suit coverup (I’m not sure), but that didn’t stop me from slapping a belt on this sucker and wearing it around town.  This outfit sort of gives me the same vibe as the romper I posted a while back, but I have to admit that I’m much more comfortable in dresses than shorts.

The earrings were unearthed from waaaaay back.  I think I may have bought them in college, but they’ve still held up.  Sorry that I blanked on the shoes guys.  I added in a gel insole, so I can’t see the designer label.  The picture didn’t come out so great, but they have a tiny wedge sole and spiky studs across the top and around the ankle that definitely make me feel like one tough mama!

When: Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Where: Hangin’ out on the riverfront

What: Dress ($30 Paper Doll via Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash), necklace (Forever21), shoes ($40 Nine West via Shoe Woo)

Yesterday was a deliciously lazy Sunday.  Slept in late.  Stayed home for brunch. Watched Murder She Wrote reruns on Netflix for the rest of the afternoon. Aaaahhhh…

Luckily, I did muster enough energy to get dressed and head out for some quick photos.  And not to soon either, because it rained cats and dogs for the rest of the evening.

This dress was another purchase that I picked up at the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash, and I love it.  The cotton is super soft, and it just has an easy, breezy fit that still manages to make me feel chic and polished.

The shoes were also a great find.  You can’t really tell from the photos, but they’re clogs, which are a pretty hot item this season.  I’ll have to admit that I was turned off by the idea of wearing clogs when I first heard about the trend.  I think I had something more like these in mind:

Wooden Clogs

A definite fashion no-no pour moi.

But as I investigated, I discovered that the style was more diverse and that there actually is such a thing as a cute clog that doesn’t make you look like you just stepped out of the movie, Heidi.

So when I stepped into Shoe Woo (an experience unto itself which I will recap later this week) and saw these lovelies:

Nine West Eddisha

I knew that I had to make them mine.

Have you ever surprised yourself and bought into a fashion trend after initially blowing it off?

Closet Confection: Becky Who?

When: Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Where: Hester Street Fair + Dinner at La Esquina

What: White eyelet dress (Forever21), sandals (Payless), bangles (H&M)

The weather was absolutely gorgeous yesterday!  Not too hot, not too cold… but juuuust right.

I decided to seize the opportunity and check out the Hester Street Fair that I keep hearing so much about.  It certainly did not disappoint, and I will update you on my purchases and give a full recap in a later post.

Since the day was so lovely, I went with one of my favorite sundresses. This is definitely up there as one of my top Forever21 purchases.  The construction is great with full support up top, and it’s fully lined—very important for a white dress (unless you enjoy flashing people). It’s also stood up to several washings over the past year or two that I’ve had it.  I think it can easily hold its own against much more expensive dresses that I own.

I don’t know about you, but I love it when I get a quality item at a bargain basement price!
