{Spain Style} The Distinguished Gentleman

I typically don’t feature my husband on this blog, but I just had to give credit where credit is due…

Eric did a fantastic job packing for our recent trip to Spain.  Even though he only brought a handful of items, he managed to look fantastic and really well put together every day that we were on vacation.  I have to admit that I got a little jealous more than once as he effortlessly got ready while I struggled to figure out what to wear (especially towards the tail end of our journey).

I’m definitely taking a page out of his book for our next vacation by only packing a few key separates that I can mix and match in fun and interesting ways.

Carry-On, Carry-On

I’m meticulously detailed and highly efficient when it comes to packing for trips.  Case in point–> http://bit.ly/ccpackinglist.

With that being said, I thought I’d share with you guys my top 10 must-have carry-on items when flying the friendly skies.  In no particular order, here are the items that helped me get through 18 hours of air time during my recent trip to Spain:

  1. Cozy socks to keep my tootsies nice and warm
  2. Fully loaded-iPod with noise-cancellation headphones to help me zone out (I scored these Shure headphones for less than half the normal price because they were pink!)
  3. Nubby oversize scarf that doubles as a blanket
  4. Lip balm to prevent chapped lips from the dry cabin air
  5. Dramamine to chase away any nausea caused by turbulence (as an added bonus, it also puts me to sleep!)
  6. Airborne to help me ward off any yuckies that may enter my system through the air filtration system (I also swear by this stuff at the first sign of sniffles or a scratchy throat)
  7. A sleep mask helps block out the sunlight while I try to catch some zzzz’s
  8. Earplanes are a must during take-off and landing to keep my ears from popping (my ears once stayed clogged for over 72 hours on a trip to Disney World!)
  9. Travel guide to help get me up-to-speed on the local scene before landing (The Top 10 series by Eyewitness Travel is one of my favs)
  10. An inflatable neck pillow is always a necessity, especially with domestic flights skimping on the traditional creature comforts of yore

Did I miss anything?  I’d love to hear what you guys can’t live without when traveling!

Today was my first day back at work, and I’m still completely jetlagged.  Thank goodness for caffeine, or I seriously would’ve fallen asleep during that conference call.

I’m off now to get some shut-eye, but I wanted to leave you all with some pics of what I wore for a romantic stroll through the botanical gardens in Madrid.  As cute as my glittery little flats were, my poor little tootsies were just about done by the end of the day.

Word to the wise: if your shoes lack arch support, slide in a pair of orthotic inserts.  I have several pairs that I switch in and out of various shoes, but I of course forgot to pack them for this trip.  DOH!

P.S.  If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times… don’t miss out on your chance to win a $25 gift certificate from my SkinCareRX giveaway!
