It’s been raining on and off for the past week.  And without fail, the days that I forget my umbrella are the ones where it POURS!

On this particular day, I noticed a light drizzle when I got downstairs.  So I ran back inside to grab my favorite umbrella. And wouldn’t you know it stopped raining by the time I got outside, and I saw not a single drop for the rest of the day.  Unfortunately, I got stuck carrying this huge bumbershoot all day. But on the plus side, it matched my accessories, which is always a welcomed bonus in my book.

Random side note: a new flower bush was planted near my apartment building, and it seems to attract tons of butterflies.  And by tons, I mean 3 or 4 at any given time…

Hey, this is the concrete jungle after all.  Wildlife of the non-pigeon and vermin variety can be hard to come by!

I spotted this dress at Beacon’s Closet a few months ago and immediately fell in love.  I could tell by its interior construction that it was made by hand, immediately giving it extra cool points in my book.  I debuted my first sewing project on the blog a few days ago, and this dress gives me major inspiration and excitement for the things I’ll (hopefully) someday be able to create on my own.  Now as keen as I am on my new frock, the real pièce de résistance of this outfit is the shoes.

As soon as I slipped them on, I thought I’d died and gone to shoe heaven.  I already have a severe weakness for shoes of the maryjane variety, but the dainty little peep-toe is what ultimately got me.  I can’t wait to pair them with all manner of hosiery this fall.

There are just so many things I love about this outfit. For starters, this dress was a major thrift store find.  I had pined away for this Marc Jacobs dress when it first hit the stores, but I just couldn’t justify the $628 price tag.  Luckily, my pocketbook and I didn’t have to brood for too long once I scooped up this bright and cheery frock for just $30!  And speaking of pocketbooks…

I couldn’t be more thrilled with my new Dooney & Bourke handbag.  To be quite honest, Dooney & Bourke isn’t a brand I’ve given much thought in at least the past 10 years or so.  They were somewhat popular when I was in high school, but somewhere along the way they just fell off my radar.  I think I got turned off by those weird pastel designs with logos plastered everywhere that they were doing for a while. In any case, they have some great new designs available now.  And not only are they great quality, but they’re pretty affordable.  For the best deal, I’d recommend buying in a store rather than online as I was able to scoop up my bag for under $100 via in-store promotions!

And finally, the thing I love most about this outfit is that it reminds me of one of my favorite Dr. Suess books of all time…
Oh--The-Places-Youll-Go--Book_20090627149Not sure if that was intentional on the designer’s part, but I still think it’s pretty cool!
