Weekend Score!

I decided to stay in the city this Memorial Day weekend to take it easy and hang out with friends.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I swung by the Score! Pop-Up Swap on Saturday to drop off a few items and check out the goodies.  I also wound up attending the Dance Africa Festival at Brooklyn Academy of Music.  I had tons of fun at both events.  Although at first, I was a little disappointed in the selection at Score.  I probably could have gotten more items, but some girls were vultures a bit more determined than me, and I just didn’t have the patience to stand around waiting to pounce on the restocked merchandise.

Another highlight of the weekend was that I got to meet Jessica Schroeder from What I Wore!  I absolutely adore her blog, so it was great to finally meet her in person.

Overall, I’d give the weekend a thumbs up!  Even though I didn’t wind up scoring as much stuff as I’d originally hoped, I was at least able to free up some closet space. And I had fun hanging out in Brooklyn and eating tons of BBQ.

I Know What I'm Doing This Weekend…

Score! Postcard

In addition to catching some much-needed Z’s and eating massive amounts of BBQ, I’ll be attending the Score! Pop-Up Swap at the Brooklyn Yard.  Yeah, I know I still have 3 more days to go until my shopping hiatus is over.  But as we (I) decided in my previous post, this doesn’t count since it’s technically not shopping and more like an exchange.  At least that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!

I have my bag of swap-bait all packed up and ready to go.  So, hopefully I can score some juicy finds tomorrow.  Wish me luck!

This doesn’t count as shopping does it?

I mean, no money is actually going to exchange hands. So I should be good, right? Great!

Now that we’re in agreement, lemme tell you all about Score! in case you haven’t heard of it… Attendees bring their old clothes, music, books, etc, to the event and drop them at the door. Volunteers sort and distribute these items to themed departments where professional curators organize them into boutique-like displays. Attendees have the option to browse each department and take as much as they can carry! Meanwhile, DJs keep the party poppin’, artists silkscreen custom tote bags, and fashion photographers take photos of stylish “scored” outfits. At the end of the day, all leftover items and proceeds from the event are donated to charity. This year’s event is happening on Saturday, May 29th. I can’t wait!
