Closet Confection: Love Potion No. 9

2010_1116_outfit1

When: Monday, November 15th, 2010

Where: The office

What: Sweater (H&M years ago), skirt (Banana Republic), tights (Emilio Cavallini), shoes (Via Spiga), belt (Oscar de la Renta)

After meticulously pre-ironing and laying out all of my outfits last week (down to the last earring), I decided to allow my outfits come together more organically this week…

In other words, I was too lazy to plan everything out over the weekend!

And of course, I was rushing around like a madwoman trying to leave the house on time Monday morning, only to realize once I got to the office that my 8:30am meeting had been rescheduled.

Oh well, such is life.

On another note, I’ve reached an exciting point in the challenge where I’ve actually started repeating items. As you may have noticed, I wore this skirt last week. I doubt anyone at my office noticed since it’s just a simple black skirt, but I am feeling a little anxious about wearing my vintage plaid shirt again tomorrow.

Closet Confection: Sixth Sense

2010_1112_outfit1

When: Friday, November 12th, 2010

Where: Work + Business Awards Gala

What: Coat (Miss Sixty), headband (H&M), cashmere sweater (old navy), skirt ($36 Gap w/ 40% discount), floral pendant (h&m), tights (???), shoes (Via Spiga)

In case you missed the memo, apparently turbans are all the rage right now… at least according to the New York Times.

To be honest, when I first noticed the trend I was surprised.  For years, I’ve been tying my hair up in a similar fashion (always with a silk scarf) before I go to bed or when I’m doing chores around the house.  It just never occurred to me to make it a fashion statement and actually wear it out in public.

Then I found this awesome ear warmer/headband at H&M and was immediately sold.  However, a “certain member” of my household still needed convincing.

The first time I wore it, the ensuing conversation went a little something like this:

Him: Who are you?

Me: What do you mean?

Him: You look like a gypsy.  What is this?

Me: That’s no way to get your 3 wishes…

Him: Hmmm… I guess you’re right.

I’m not worried.  I think it adds a touch of old-school glamour to my ensembles, and it’ll grow on him eventually.

On a side note, the most random thing happened while taking pictures this afternoon.  I was at my usual, somewhat-secluded, blocked off side street trying to discreetly take photos of myself when THREE CONVERTIBLE FERRARIS decide to pull up and gun their engines right alongside me!  I’m not sure where they thought they were going since the street is closed to traffic, but they of course drew a small crowd of onlookers while I was standing there posing for the camera.

aaa8

If ever there was a time for me to get over my shyness about taking my own photos in public, that was it!  In any case, the driver in the red car was kind enough to ask if he was ruining my shot and then politely offered to back up a few feet.

Do any of you have any weird or interesting stories about things that happened while taking outfit photos out in public?  If so, please share ‘cuz I’d love to hear them!

Closet Confection: Entering the Fourth Dimension

2010_1110_outfit3

When: Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Where: Work + Dinner @ Hill Country Chicken

What: Jacket ($30 Old Navy), scarf ($10 Old Navy), turtleneck ($20 French Connection via Filene’s Basement), skirt (Club Monaco), boots (Michael Kors via Loehmann’s), earrings (Privileged via HauteLook), necklace (Pippin Vintage Jewelry), bracelets (Lyric Culture via HauteLook)

We’ve been having picture perfect weather in NYC for the past two days, so I decided to take advantage of it by wearing a classic fall outfit.

Turtleneck? Check!

Pleated skirt? Check!

Mixed plaids? Check!

Pea coat? Check!

Warm scarf? Check!

Yep, it looks like we’ve got all the bases pretty much covered in this outfit.

Add a pair of cool shades and some funky gold jewelry, and I’m all set and ready to go!

On another note, I’m starting to wonder how long I’ll be able to keep up these numerical post titles…
