Closet Confection: Tour de Force

Closet Confection: Tour de Force

Closet Confection: Tour de Force

Closet Confection: Tour de Force

When: Friday, May 7th

Where: Work and a night at the ballet

What: Dress ($35 H&M), black velvet blazer ($50 Banana Republic on sale), zebra print scarf ($10 street vendor),  tights (Wolford), shoes (Via Spiga via Filene’s Basement)

This dress was a recent (pre-shopping hiatus) purchase, and I thought it would be perfect for a night at the ballet.  The pale pink color and soft flowy material made me want to do an arabesque… if only I didn’t have two left feet.  Actually, my dancing’s not that bad, and I can do a pretty sweet moonwalk.

I originally planned to wear this dress with a thin gold belt and strappy sandals, but I changed my mind because the weather looked a little dreary when I woke up that morning.  I think pairing it with the black blazer and tights helped make the dress more work appropriate and also provided a nice contrast.  I threw in the zebra print scarf at the last minute for good measure.

My husband and I were feeling very cultured that evening as we headed out to the Ajkun Ballet to see Legacy, Exploring the Odyssey of Albania. Such a great performance!  After the show, we were able to meet the dancers and choreographer while we sampled Albanian cuisine.

Closet Confection: True Blue

Closet confection outfit of the day: True Blue
Closet confection outfit of the day: True Blue

When: Saturday, May 1st

Where: “Window”-shopping on 5th Avenue + Japanese BBQ

What: Dress ($20 H&M), wedge sandals ($30 Cynthia Vincent for Target)

This weekend got off to a GORGEOUS start with a high of 81 degrees.  Very exciting!  It actually felt a little cooler than that since it was so breezy outside.  And the flutter sleeves on this dress made me feel like a little butterfly.

There was one major sour note about this outfit.  The dress is totally see-through, so I had to wear a full-body slip… there was just no way around it.  This would have been ok, except the back was a little low and my slip kept showing.  Of course, I didn’t realize this until after I left the house.

**Sigh**

Oh well, a quick trip to the Ladies Lounge in Sak’s and two safety pins later, all was right with the world.  Which reminds me to share with you, I am almost NEVER without safety pins and/or garment tape.  I keep them in my closet, the bathroom medicine cabinet, my desk drawer at work, my gym bag, my purse, you name it.  They are truly life-savers and must-haves in any fashionistas wardrobe arsenal.

When: Friday, April 30th

Where: Work + Dinner

What: Dress ($25 Strawberry), peeptoe pumps ($30 Jessica Simpson via Filene’s Basement), cropped trench ($15 H&M sale), bracelet ($20 Gap), earrings ($7 H&M)

Just got paid!  Friday niiii-ight! Party hun-tin’!  Feeeelin’ right!

Whew! I made it through the week.  I was so happy to see Friday that I wanted to celebrate through my outfit—hence the super-bold print.  This is one of my favorite dresses, and people usually can’t believe it when I tell them it’s from Strawberry’s!  I have the exact same dress in other print, but I definitely get more wear out of this one.

The shoes are pretty saucy as well.  You can’t see it in the pic, but they have a 4 inch, lucite, leopard print heel.  Grrrrrrr!

In short, this outfit can’t be tamed… so don’t even try!
