Closet Confection: Eighties Baby

vintage 80s sweater, black corduroys, chanel slingback pumps

When: Originally worn on Friday, January 7th, 2010 (but the pics were taken on Sunday, the 9th)

Where: Work (for like 30 minutes before I got super sick and had to go back home)

What: sweater ($10 No Relation Vintage), corduroys ($20 Uniqlo), belt ($20 Michael Kors via TJ Maxx), shoes (Chanel via eBay), sunglasses (Forever 21), necklace (H&M)

After spending 2 days at home in bed with the flu, I got cabin fever and decided to venture into the office last Friday. Big mistake! I was really in no shape to leave the house. But being the stubborn woman that I am, I decided to give it a go anyway.  Interspersed within today’s outfit pics is a play-by-play of how my morning went.

  • 6:15am  My alarm clock goes off, and I wake up to find that I’m dripping in sweat even though the bedroom is a comfortable 70 degrees.
  • 6:30am  Still groggy from the NyQuil I took the night before, I finally manage to stumble out of bed to get showered and ready.
  • 7:15am  I lamely attempt to apply makeup to coverup a red, chafed nose and dark under-eye circles.  After deciding I look even worse, I proceed to wash off the makeup and just go au naturel
  • 7:25am  I should really leave now to catch the 7:30 bus, but I can’t find my keys.

  • 7:32am  I still can’t find my keys, and I look outside my window just in time to catch a glimpse of the 7:30 bus pulling away.
  • 7:38am  With no keys in sight, I decide to leave without them and hopefully catch the 7:40 bus.  Only after the door clicks shut behind me, do I realize that my wallet is inside the apartment.
  • 7:39am  In denial that this could really be happening, I dump all of the contents of my purse onto the hallway floor and frantically dig through them, hoping to find my wallet.
  • 7:41am  Slightly dizzy from sinus pressure, I give up and resign myself to the fact that I will have to survive on $3 all day. I also cry a little inside.

  • 7:42am  I get outside just in time to see the 7:40 bus pull off.  I mumble a few not-so-ladylike phrases under my breath and struggle to breathe out of one nostril.
  • 7:50am  I get on the super duper late bus.
  • 7:52am  The woman next to me moves to another seat, but not before giving me a dirty look as I sneeze uncontrollably.
  • 7:56am  I get to the subway station and pray that by some miracle I can actually get a seat on the train…

  • 7:59am  The train arrives, and the only open seat is next to a homeless man.  I decide he needs his space and attempt to sleep while standing.
  • 8:45am  I arrive at work 15 minutes late with a purse full of used tissues.
  • 9:35am  After sneezing my way through our morning meeting, my head is pounding and my co-workers are keeping their distance from me like I have the plague.  I can’t really blame them, so I decide to just go home and beg my doorman to let me into my apartment without charging me the $20 lock-out fee.
  • 11:00am  I am back in bed… where I should have stayed in the first place.

Closet Confection: Yo, Taxi!

Miss Sixty Jacket, Sculptz Leggings, Laila Rowe Rhinestone Brooch, Forever 21 Scarf, and Thrift Store Boots by ClosetConfection--A Fashion Blog

When: Sunday, December 26th, 2010

Where: Dinner in the city

What: Coat (Miss Sixty via Burlington Coat Factory), black tunic tee (H&M… it’s under the coat, trust me), knit hat (JC Penney), ruffle wrap scarf (Forever 21), tie-dye leggings (c/o Silkies), leg warmers (Uniqlo), boots (thrifted via Beacon’s Closet)

It seems like all I wanna do is be lazy comfortable this holiday season.  My usual uniform is a dress and heels, but with the temperatures dropping (not to mention the recent snowstorm NYC was slammed with), I find myself reaching more and more for leggings and stretchy jeans to layer on top of one another.*

As you may have noticed, I am a big fan of kooky legwear.  I had been wanting to add a tie-dye pair to my collection for a while, so I was pretty excited when Silkies sent me a pair of their new Sculptz Tie-Dye Opaque Leggings with Control Top to review.  And boy- ‘o-boy, when they say control top, they really mean it.  For those who care about such things, these baby’s will definitely hold it all in.  I loved the fact that they’re opaque and not at all thin and see-through. They also come in solid colors, and I have my eye on the Copper and Purple versions.

Stay tuned tomorrow for my winter snow bunny outfit and tales of how I survived the Great Blizzard of 2010!

*Just to clarify, I mean leggings on top of leggings and jeans on top of leggings.  Leggings on top of  jeans would probably be pretty weird.

Closet Confection: Pinky On the Brain

2010_1218_outfit1

When: Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Where: Brunch + Christmas Shopping

What: Sweater ($40 Rugby on sale), skirt ($20 Forever 21), knit headband (Forever 21), boots ($30 Strawberry), tights (Hue & Calvin Klein yes, I’m wearing 2 pairs ‘cuz it’s cold!), coat (Miss Sixty), scarf (H&M), necklace (Jess LC)

Yay for my first official post on WordPress!  I actually wasn’t planning on switching over completely until the new year, but I was messing around in GoDaddy and accidentally changed my DNS settings.  After freaking out for a couple of hours, I finally bit the bullet and spent all night cleaning things up over here and making them all nice and pretty for you readers.  It’s still very much a work in progress (I’ve got some weird things going on with transferring my comments), but prepare to be dazzled in 2011 by all of the neat things I’ll be able to do now that I’ve moved away from hosting my main content on Tumblr.

Ok, enough of the tech talk!  Let’s dive into today’s outfit…

I picked this sweater up at Rugby a couple of years ago, and it’s super warm and cozy.  As I’m typing this post, I just realized that I forgot to take pics of it’s coolest feature: suede elbow patches! Oh well, maybe next time since I’m sure I’ll be relying on this sweater a lot as the temps continue to drop.  Speaking of cold weather, I also decided to double up on tights which turned out to be a fantastic idea.  Having two layers so close to my skin definitely helped retain body heat.  And as you may recall from my previous post, I’m on a mission to stock up on knit headbands in different colors in lieu of always wearing a hat.  This is one of the last ones I could find at F21, and I’m 1/3 of the way done knitting a lavender one for myself.

I’ve gotta run now since it’s Christmas Eve, and I still haven’t finished wrapping gifts.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
