Fabulous Footwear Friday (Round 2)

2010_0107_fff_2

I’ve been at home with the flu for the past couple of days, but I’m headed into the office tomorrow just in time for casual Friday.   A full outfit post is coming shortly, but I wanted to kick off this week’s Fabulous Footwear Friday by giving you guys a sneak peak of my latest eBay acquisition. In general, I don’t spend more than $50 on my shoes (and maybe $100 for boots), but I made an exception last month as an early Christmas gift to myself.

I’m certain that many of you have some fly kicks to share as well, so don’t be shy.  To join in on the fun, all’s you gotta do is:

  • Add the following button to your blog (feel free to just add it to an individual post if you want to reduce sidebar clutter).
  • Fabulous Footwear Fridays

  • Click on the “Click here to enter” button.
  • Provide a link to your outfit post that shows off your favorite shoes this week.
  • Tell us what makes these shoes fabulous in 50 words or less.
  • And most importantly, spread good shoe karma by checking out everyone’s posts!

Closet Confection: Catwoman

black old navy dress, leopard pring Forever 21 tights, black Givenchy rubber cowboy boots

When: Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Where: Prince Concert @ Madison Square Garden

What: Dress (Old Navy), tights (Forever 21), boots (Givenchy via eBay), shawl (Forever 21), knit headband (street vendor)

Excuse the time warp… I mean, this outfit is just sooooo last year.  Silly me left both of my SD cards at work over the long weekend, so I’m playing catch-up on a few outfit posts.  Ok, now that we’ve gotten that tiny bit of house-keeping out of the way, it’s on to the good stuff!

No matter what variation of this dress I wear, I always seem to channel some fictional character.  First a pilgrim, and now Catwoman.  Oh wait… pilgrims are real.  I always get them confused with leprechauns (who aren’t real, by the way).  Whatever. American History was never my strongest subject in school.  However, I can differentiate an equation like nobody’s business.  Well, at least I could back in college.  But I can calculate a good tip in a restaurant without using a calculator.  That should count for something, right?

Closet Confection: Varsity Blues

Plaid Old Navy Peacoat, jeggings, Michael Kors Duck Boots, hand-knit scarf by ClosetConfection--A Fashion Blog

When: Friday, December 24th, 2010

Where: Last-minute Christmas shopping

What: Jacket (Old Navy), scarf (self-made), cardigan w/ custom lettering (Rugby), jeans (TJ Maxx), t-shirt (J. Crew) , boots (Michael Kors via eBay)

Man, shopping on Christmas Eve is the pits!  Lines are long, pickings are slim, and frustration is high.  Luckily, most of my shopping was complete the week before, and this excursion turned out to be more people-watching than actual buying.

After several failed attempts to score a vintage letterman sweater in pristine condition (and at a reasonable price) on eBay and at my local vintage shops, I struck gold when I ran across this modern version on sale at Rugby.  The best part is that I got to customize it myself, and there are no moth holes!  I had originally planned on channeling a 50s cheerleader by pairing it with my gold pleated skirt, but my husband talked me out of it.  He’s a high school math teacher and apparently gets enough school spirit during his work week.

To round out my casual ensemble, I decided to take my new duck boots out for a spin.  After drooling over Tommy Hilfiger’s version only to be snapped back into reality by the hefty $300 price tag, I was stoked to score this pair by Michael Kors for just $65 on eBay.  Yes, the 4-inch heel makes them totally impractical for wearing in the snow.  But I love ’em just the same.
