My Weekend In Photos (Takin’ My New Sony a35 for a Spin!)

nikond40After getting my first DSLR almost a year ago (a used Nikon D40 that I sniped on eBay) and becoming “reasonably” well-versed in how to use it, I decided it was time for an upgrade. Enter my new Sony a35. When I first began investigating cameras, I pretty much stuck to the world of Canon and Nikon. However, a quick trip to Sony Plaza on Madison Avenue (initially just to pick up a new pair of headphones) plus a few excellent conversations with their super-knowledgeable and helpful staff, and I was pretty much sold on my new camera.

I’ve only had it for about two days, but so far… I LOVE IT! Below are way too many some pics that I shot this weekend while traipsing through SoHo and the Lower East Side.

{minature lego tree house} one cool thing i love about nyc is the random street art often found in the most unexpected places. it definitely pays to be mindful of your surroundings.

{st. patrick’s old cathedral} i’ve meandered past this place before, but never took the time to stop in.  beautiful cathedrals like this are always so peaceful and serene inside.

{urban foliage + a bump in the road} after doing some fiddling about, i discovered a cool feature on my new cam that allows you to focus on one specific color while converting everything else to black & white.  pretty cool, huh?

{windows on the world}: my old camera would never let me get this shot.  unfortunately, the steep contrast from the dark shadowed region below to the bright sky above would cause the whole scene to come out a bit wonky and overexposed.

{grafitti artists} praise-worthy design or simply an eyesore?  you be the judge.  whatever the verdict, some of it can be quite interesting.

{man of the hour} my favorite subject matter by far… just don’t ask me why he looks so angry in this pic, lol!
