Why does it always seem like you can never find anything to wear when there’s an important event or a special occasion?  It’s as if your closet purposely conspires against you, and all of your favorite stores suddenly seem to have a dearth of acceptable inventory.

At least that’s how I used to feel.  These days, I have a little  rule for myself: whenever I spot a great party dress I just go ahead and get it… even if I don’t have anyplace to wear it anytime soon.  So far, it’s worked well for me, and I no longer have to scramble around at the last minute whenever I have to go someplace “fancy”.  I spotted this dress at Banana Republic (on the clearance rack for just $25!), and I immediately snatched it up.  My favorite features are the jeweled belt and the tiny pleats around the neckline.

I can’t wait to take it out for a spin.  Cocktails anyone?

Closet Confection: Domestic Diva

When: Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Where: Dinner at Silom Thai

What: Dress ($35 Banana Republic clearance sale), belt (vintage), sandals ($40 Sam Edelman via DSW)

I have a confession to make.  I’ve been slacking on some of my household duties lately, namely cooking.  I got home from work the other day and realized that the fridge was empty.  And I do mean barren.  Like not even a grape or a spoiled carton of milk in sight.

So I did what any dutiful wife would do: slipped on a hot dress and proclaimed it was date night!

I have to admit, I felt very divalicious in this outfit, yet oh so comfy. A rare combination indeed. I love how this dress is made out material that’s as soft and cozy as a sweatshirt, yet it still manages to look chic because of the way it drapes around the body.

The night ended with everyone happy and well fed.  And to top it off, I even placed an order with Fresh Direct when I got home!

When: Monday, June 10th, 2010

Where: Work + Dentist

What: Dress ($40 Banana Republic), blazer (Old Navy), canvas tote ($14.99 J. Crew), Shoes ($45 Banana Republic)

This outfit is a testament to the power of shopping the clearance rack.  There is no shame in my game when it comes to a good bargain.  I’d been eyeing this dress for a while last year, but I just had a feeling it would eventually go on sale.  My patience paid off during a weekend excursion to Boston when I scooped it up for more than half off.  I also lucked out with the shoes.  They have a 4-inch heel, but they are sooooo comfy.  I also get tons of compliments whenever I wear them.  At least 4 women stopped me on the street on my way to the dentist that afternoon to tell me how cute they were!

Speaking of the dentist…

I may look chipper in this photo, but I was actually in a lot of pain.  It was supposed to be a quick checkup and replacement of a small filling.  My dentist told me I didn’t even need novocaine. Unfortunately, I have a very feisty first molar who refused to take the filling after the 1st three attempts. Can we say “ouch!”

The good news is that I survived and lived to blog about it.
