Candy Stripes {Zara Striped Blanket Scarf + Gap Sweatshirt Dress}

What’s not to love about a huge cozy blanket scarf?! For the past year or two, plaid versions were all the rage. But this time around, the trend feels fresh and new in bold candy-coated stripes. I scooped this one up at Zara recently, and I’m thinking of adding another one to my collection. What new twists on familiar favorites are you trying out this season?

Sweet Little Nothings {October Favorites}

I’ts been ages since I’ve done one of these, but I just wanted to share a quick rooundup of all the things that made me smile during the month of Otcober. Enjoy!

blue-yellow-faux-fur-stole-2

This awesomely tacky faux fur wrap from Zara. It’s a slight departure from my normal style, but saw it as I was leaving the store and couldn’t resist rushing back to the cash register to bring it home with me.

exploring-washington-heights-3

Exploring my new neighborhood in Washington Heights. Eric and I lived her for a couple of years when we first got married, but we moved back last month after being away for 7 years! We’ve fallen in love with it all over again and continue to discover new things almost every day.

There’s nothing I love more this time of year than curling up with a good book and a mug of hot cocoa. It’s like PopSugar Must Have read my mind when they sent me this month’s #MustHaveBox to try. And because sharing is caring, here’s $5 off your FIRST Must Have Box with code SHOP5. http://bit.ly/psmusthave1116

Fall Foliage in Upstate New York

Watching the leaves turn this time of year is always a treat. I’m still bummed I missed out on apple picking this season, but this stunning view in Upstate New York more than made up for it.

And last, but defnitely not least… I celebrated my birthday this month! We kept things pretty low-key this year, but I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Per Se with a cozy table for two overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. And afterwards, we went to the Metropolitan Opera to watch Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Beauty on the Road: 3 Tips for Healthy Skin While Traveling {Plus a Red Door Spa Giveaway}

While I absolutely love traveling and the thrill of having a change of scenery, constantly being on the go can wreak havoc on my skin. That’s why I always take extra care to ensure my skincare game is on point when I’m on the road. Here are my three simple rules for keeping my skin in shape on the road.

  1. Drink copious amounts of water. This is hands-down my No. 1 tip. All the beauty products in the world won’t help unless you keep your skin hydrated from within. The ventilation systems on airplanes are notoriously are notoriously drying, so sometimes I even carry a little Evian misting spray to help perk things up a bit.
  2. Exfoliate. I love to pamper myself while traveling, even if it’s for business. I used to swear by clay masks, but recently switched to glycolic acid peels upon the recommendation of the aesthetician who gave me my last facial at Red Door Spa. After noticing how dry my skin was and asking about my skincare regimen, she explained how clay masks were too drying for my skin type and recommended Elizabeth Arden’s Illuminating Glycolic Exfoliating Pads. I’ve been using them weekly for the past two months, and they’ve made such a difference in my skin. It absolutely glows now, and I’ve gotten compliments from friends and strangers.
  3. Use sunscreen. I’ll be honest, sunscreen wasn’t a part of my daily skincare routine until much later in life. But a couple of years back, I unexpectedly got my very first case of sunburn while on vacation. Up until then, I thought my extra melanin was all the sun protection I needed. But my painful experience led me to do a bit of research, and I learned very quickly that definitely was not the case.  A lot of sunscreens I’ve tried are way too heavy and greasy feeling for my face, but Elizabeth Arden’s Triple Factor SPF 50 lotion goes on very lightly and feels quite nice on the skin. I love it’s unique twist-top pump that makes it great for travel because you don’t have to worry about spills and messes. It’s also under 3 oz. which means you can slip it into your carry-on.
