Closet Confection: One For the Money

30for30_1

When: Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Where: Linner at Burger Joint

What: Coat (Miss Sixty via Burlington Coat Factory), scarf ($15 H&M), military beret (vintage via Cockpit USA), dress (H&M), socks (H&M), boots (thrifted via Beacon’s Closet), handbag ($99 Cole Haan via RueLaLa)

No, that’s not a typo…

My husband and I did in fact go out for linner yesterday.

What?  You’ve never heard of linner?  Well, let me school you.

Linner is what happens when you stay up way too late the night before and sleep in so late the next day that you miss brunch.  By the time you do roll out of bed (usually around 2pm), you’re starving and can’t wait until dinnertime.  That’s linner, the meal you eat around 4 or 5pm.

In other news, this is my first official outfit of the 30 for 30 challenge!

You would think having such a limited selection of clothing to choose from would make getting dressed a lot easier.

Oh, how I wish that were the case!

Now, I just find myself fixating on accessories.  And holy mackerel do I have a bunch!

To make matters worse, the weather keeps getting colder and colder, which means hats, gloves and scarves now enter into the equation.  It’s enough to make a girl dizzy.

As you can see, I decided to try over-the-knee socks for the first time.  I’ve never tried them before because I have thick thighs, but I’d seen some people wear them over dark tights and thought I’d give it go.

I liked the look, but I had a hard time keeping  from rolling down my leg.  Rather than walk around looking like Thelma Harper, I had to stop and readjust them every two seconds.

I finally figured out that for my body type, I need to stick to socks that are just at or below the knee.  Otherwise, I’m just asking for trouble.

What do you guys think about the OTK socks trend?  Have you tried it yet, and if not, do you plan to?

Closet Raid: My 30 for 30 Round-Up!

Hey Gang!

I’m all prepped and ready for the 30 for 30 wardrobe remix challenge.  After much thought and consideration, I think I’ve come up with a fool-proof wardrobe to get me through the next 30 days.

As you’ve probably noticed, I live in dresses.  That’s because I’m usually rushing out of the house in the mornings, and wearing a dress means I don’t have to worry about mixing and matching.  In fact, I could probably reach into my closet blindfolded and pull out a decent-looking outfit every time.  When choosing my 30 items, I was pretty tempted to just pick out 25 dresses plus a few pairs of shoes and just call it a day.  But what would be the fun in that?

Instead of taking the easy route, I decided to switch it up and make this a true remixing challenge by limiting myself to just 5 dresses.

And without further adieu, here’s the lineup:

FIVE SHIRTS

FIVE SWEATERS

1 BLAZER & 2 TUNICS

FIVE DRESSES

4 SKIRTS

30for30_g

2 PAIRS OF PANTS

30for30_e

6 PAIRS OF SHOES

So there you have it!

I even threw in two pairs of pants to really make things interesting. For those of you who are also taking part in the challenge, I’d love to see what you’ve have chosen for your 30 items.  So please do drop a link to your roundup in the comments section.

And for everyone, stay tuned for 30 days of me whining and complaining about not being able to shop.  JUST KIDDING! I’m taking Thanksgiving off, so you’ll only see 29 days of me complaining.

Closet Confection: Berry Nice To Meet You

2010_1103_outfit5

When: Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Where: The usual

What: Dress ($23 Heritage 1981), tights (DKNY), ankle boots (Enigma), necklace (H&M)

I only got about 3 hours of sleep the night before, so getting dressed the next morning left me a wee bit harried to say the least.

2010_1103_outfit3

On mornings like these, I find it way too time-consuming to try and get all matchy-matchy.  So I went with my gut and just grabbed a pair of semi-obnoxious tights, keeping my fingers crossed that they would work.

I have my commute timed down to the millisecond, so I knew there would be no time for a do-over if my first choice didn’t work out.

Luckily, it all came together nicely, and I was able to catch my bus on time.

In other news, this is day 3 of me taking my own outfit photos.  I’ve noticed that I’m getting more and more comfortable doing photo shoots by myself in public places.  I’ve even started doing kooky stuff now like blowing kisses at my camera.

I also did a cartwheel, but I’ll spare you from those photos.

Ironically, I find the more weird stuff I do, the less people seem to linger as they pass by.

Which is totally fine with me. I’m going to try applying this principle on mass transit and see if it helps me get a seat all to myself on the subway.  I’ll let you all know how it goes.
