Closet Confection: The Day After Tomorrow

2010_1228_outfit1

When: Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Where: Lunch meeting in Union Square

What: Dress (thrifted via Beacon’s Closet, possibly hand-made), blazer (Banana Republic), cableknit tights (Uniqlo), shoes (Via Spiga), belt (H&M)

First day back to work after the holidays, and I decided to get back to basics:

  • Cute Dress
  • Black Tights
  • High-Heels (don’t worry, I changed into snow boots for my commute)

I even decided to throw in a black velvet blazer for good measure!

You know that NYC has been struck by a major storm when the subways are down for not 1, but 2 days in some areas.  A lot of areas with heavy pedestrian traffic also remained unplowed.  I won’t even begin to describe how ridiculous I looked while teetering my way onto the snow in 3-inch heels to take these photos.  Ahhh… the things I do for fashion.

    Hey Kendra!

Not sure if you’re seeing comments, because they don’t seem to be showing up yet. What I love most about your blog (compared to other fashion blogs) is that you show stylish, yet appropriate ways to dress for work. That’s where I am most often (boo-hoo), so those are the types of outfits I draw the most inspiration from. I feel like I should print out a Kendra calendar so I can have guidelines to dress myself each day.

I think yours was the first comment on this post, so thanks for being a trailblazer! Glad you like the workplace looks. It’s where I spend the majority of my waking hours too, so I figure I might as well look good. 🙂

Yes, it was tiring but painless, lol.

Love it, apparently I’m going to have to check out Beacon’s Closet when I head to NYC this February!

Yes, it’s a definite must! I prefer the one in Williamsburg, and I find something great every time I go. Have fun during your visit.

This is one of my favorite outfits. I have a velvet blazer that I love (got it on sale at J. Crew for only $50!). Here’s my question – I get scuff marks / a worn look on the elbows, especially if I wear it to work and sit all day typing. Do you have any suggestions for how to reduce the worn look / stretched out look?

just thought i should warn you that ‘im stealing work appropriate inspiration from you for my new internship. I love how the outfits are appropriate but still fun

Hmmm… I’ve never had that issue myself. The only solution that comes to mind is elbow patches.

This dress is phenomenal! The color looks great on you, and I love how full the bottom is. The blazer was such a great touch as well!
