Who knew that a bright yellow blazer could become such a wardrobe staple?! I bought this cheery little jacket last week, and I just can’t seem to take it off. I was a little skeptical when I tried it on in the store. But once I got home, I was amazed at how many outfits I was able to build around it.
While I still crave variety in my sartorial choices, lately I’ve been on a mission to eliminate the unnecessary fluff in my wardrobe. To that end, I tossed/donated 4 ridiculously large bags of items over the weekend and set two rules for all new purchases:
- One -In/One-Out: For every new item that enters my wardrobe, an old one must go!
- Three Times the Fun: Each new item must go with at least 3 other things in my wardrobe.
I still have a bit more purging to do, but I can’t even begin to tell you how great it feels to cut the crap and just be left with the items you love!
Am I the only one who’s been bitten by the spring cleaning bug, or are any of you cleaning out your closets as well? Also, I’d love to hear if anyone else employs any neat tricks or guidelines for justifying new purchases.
I wish I was as ambitious to be in a spring cleaning mode AND I wish I was disciplined enough for the one in one out. These are great ideas though! I wish you luck! I love your pretty flowered dress!
I love yellow. I had a yellow phase some time ago but I’m thinking of picking it up again for summer. It’s such a cheery colour. I’ve started clearing out my closet, getting rid of anything too college-like and also things that I haven’t worn for a long time.
Hey Kendra!
Love the sunshiny yellow with navy!! Purging the closet seasonally does work wonders. If I’m unsure about an item , I put it away for awhile. Then when I want something different, I’ll pull it back out before I go shopping for anything new. Occasionally I’ll do that for several seasons and a piece will finally become indispensable.
The other thing I do when I upcycle clothes is assess what I love about a piece, i.e. the color, fit etc. and keep that, but change what I don’t like. As I slowly revamp my closet, it’s such a pleasure to have things I really love. All this saves me money, which I can then spend on a fabulous bag or pair of shoes! Love, Jeanwww.drossintogold.com
Love your yellow blazer! It will definitely be a great versatile piece this spring.
My main wardrobe rule is that if an item hasn’t been worn for the entire season, it must be given away, exchanged or resold. If I don’t wear it, then, I don’t need it taking up space in my closet!
Loving all these yellow touches, I gotta get this color asap in my life.
I have no idea how you inspired me. I went to Target this weekend and bought up three whole outfits from the Jason Wu collection. This dress was one of them that I picked up. The others were the pearl neck lined yellow and blue dress and the black pleated skirt with peachy cream with black collar bow. I have been mixing and matching textures and prints. Every where I have been for the past few days, people are asking me where did I get my outfits. Thank you so much for the fashion ideas.
Oh, that’s so wonderful to hear! I’m glad that I was able to help.
Great outfit, I will definitely try to find a yellow item for my closet; and no, you are not alone in the one in, one out rule.
I try to follow the one-in-one-out rule (with varying degrees of success), but I really like the 3x rule: that’s a good way to figure out how useful a garment will actually be, otherwise you’ll just replace an old wear-it-with-nothing item with another!
I *adore* this outfit! And those shoes – I totally need to get a pair of yellow pumps!
I haven’t really purged my wardrobe, but I need to! And if I keep saying that, maybe I’ll do it someday. 🙂
