Jane By Design Style Challenge

Super Exciting News!

I was recently selected to participate in the Jane by Design Style Challenge, a 3-week fashion challenge inspired by the new ABC Family original series, Jane By Design premiering Tuesday, January 3rd. The challenge will take me into the fictional world of the high-fashion design house Donovan Decker. During the course of the challenge, I will be “applying” for a job as the official Donovan Decker blogger.

I wasn’t quite sure what I was signing up for when I agreed to take on this challenge, but last night I arrived home to this:

It’s a HUGE (and heavy) trunk filled with all of the items I’ll need to complete my challenges.  Over the course of the next several weeks, I’m inviting you all along with me as I flex my fashion chops.  Take a peek at the short video below to see just what’s inside that box!

For my first challenge, I have to go shopping with a $50 budget and do a haul video!  I’m revving up to hit a few shops after work tomorrow.  But in the meantime, you guys can join in the fun by uploading a quick video of your own recent shopping finds on the Jane By Design Facebook Page (and be sure to mention Closet Confections sent you!).  Also, you can check out this scene from the show to see what all the excitement is about!

Friend Friday: Bloggers & Self Promotion

This week’s Modly Chic’s Friend Friday topic is on Self-Promotion.

A fellow blogger, Eva of Dressful, recently posted an article entitled, ‘Fashion blogs and self-promotion: How much is too much?’ It’s a quick read, and I definitely recommend checking it out. I haven’t experienced this personally, but a lot of bloggers participating in the 30 for 30 Challenge have reported a significant increase in traffic, but the average time readers spend on their sites has dropped significantly, and the comments have gone from thoughtful words to short, spammy, irrelevant remarks.

Friend Friday: All Natural

I know, I know… it’s Saturday! I was having some technical difficulties on Friday that kept me from posting this video on time.  All I can say is “better late than never!”.   This week’s Modly Chic’s Friend Friday discussion is veering more toward the beauty side of things and talking about the growing trend of going all natural by eliminating shampoos, soaps, deodorant, etc…

In case you missed it, the New York Times recently ran an article entitled The Great Unwashed, that sheds some light on this growing trend. Watch my short, 8-minute video to hear my thoughts on the matter and also get some tips on natural products that I use in my own beauty regimen.
