Summer in NYC is finally here, and along with the heat also comes a bevy of outdoor activities and celebrations including one near and dear to my heart: the NYC Pridefest! For the past 8 years, I’ve attended this wonderful event and marched alongside and celebrated with my fellow New Yorkers (and visitors from all over) who look forward to a future without discrimination – one where all people have equal rights under the law. In my opinion, there’s nothing more beautiful than to see folks from all walks of life come together to support a great cause and have fun in the process.

In anticipation of this year’s Pride Week (June 23-25), I’ve partnered with Smirnoff, a company that has a longstanding relationship with the LGBT community. As a brand that champions inclusivity and good times for all, Smirnoff is inviting everybody to share their Pride through the hashtag, #Pride4Everybody.

I can’t wait to attend this year’s parade and cool off afterwards with a group of friends and a big ‘ole batch of Smirnoff Pride Punch. It’s super easy to make and a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Follow Smirnoff on Instagram Facebook, and Pinterest for more recipes and inspiration for your summer celebrations!

Around Town: Sweet Chick

sweet-chick-1sweet-chick-2sweet-chick-3sweet-chick-4

If you follow me on the ‘gram, then it’s no secret that I’m all about that #brunchlife. Every weekend without fail, Eric and I find ourselves cozied up inside some restaurant in the city huddled over a plate of pancakes or waffles with a glass of mimosa in hand. While we do like to try new places, we usually get so attached to our favorites that it’s sometimes hard to pry us away.  For pretty much an entire year we were glued to Landmarc in the Time Warner building (who doesn’t love a place that hands out free homemade caramels with your check?!), followed by an equally long stretch spent alternating between The Plaza Food Hall (watching the chefs prepare our meals right in front of us also doubled as our weekend entertainment) and Rue 57 (two words: blueberry. pancakes).

With a steady rotation of reliably good eats in our brunch repertoire, we weren’t really looking to add anyplace new to the mix until we stumbled upon Sweet Chick. I’m not sure which one of us got the hankering for chicken and waffles first, but we soon realized that none of our regular haunts served up this southern classic. After doing some quick bleary-eyed research from bed one Sunday morning, we settled on Sweet Chick… and the rest is history.

Sweet Chick brines all of their fried chicken in sweet tea the night before, which results in a bird that’s crunchy and well-seasoned on the outside, yet tender, juicy and slightly sweet on the inside. They then serve it alongside a belgian waffle that’s perfectly light and fluffy with a crisp exterior and also comes with a trio of flavored butters. And if chicken and waffles isn’t your thing, I’m not sure if we can be friends they also churn out a delicious stack of pancakes and to-die-for maple-glazed bacon.

Off-to-Work I Go {with My Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro}

A video posted by Kendra (@closetconfections) on

lenovo-day2 Around this time last year, I said goodbye to my job at a small technology firm and embarked on a new journey as an entrepreneur. Over the past year, I’ve built a business around coaching business owners on how to use social media and technology tools to promote their products and services online.

Being an entrepreneur is all about hustle, and any given day might have me presenting uptown on a college campus in the morning, hopping on the subway for a lunch meeting in midtown, and finally sliding into a cab to head downtown for an after hours networking event. As a former 9-to-5’er turned Social Media Maven, my days are usually spent on the go running my business, meeting with clients, and finding time to write blog content and connect with you guys in between.

So when the lovely folks at Lenovo asked me to demonstrate how a Yoga 3 Pro fits into my hectic lifestyle, I jumped at the chance. Here’s a sneak peek into my daily work routine…

lenovo-day1 Most mornings start with a breakfast networking event with other business owners where we share ideas, tactics and potential referrals with one another. Afterwards, I hop onto the subway to head to my office in Herald Square. My Yoga 3 Pro is sleek and lightweight, so it fits into most of my handbags quite nicely without any noticeable bulk.

lenovo-day10 After months of working from home, various coffee shops and crowded co-working spaces, I finally settled into a nice, cheery spot near the Empire State Building. I’m easily distracted, so I like to keep a tidy, somewhat spartan work space to help keep me focused. What’s not pictured is my desk drawer full of (mostly) healthy snacks and hot cocoa mix (my only vice).

When I’m in the office, I’m usually glued to my computer screen checking email, getting caught up with industry news, updating social profiles, following up with clients and professional contacts, and scheduling events.  Despite being so lightweight, the screen on my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is big and bright enough to handle all of my administrative tasks as well as various client projects, including graphic design for the web, social media posts and light video editing.

lenovo-day8 And yes, even though I am a self-professed tech-geek, I still rely on good old-fashioned sticky notes to write out my to-do lists…

I also keep a steady rotation of business books to inspire and educate myself .

lenovo-day6 Afternoons are typically reserved for client meetings. If I’m meeting them at my office, I like to prep in the lounge area and greet them in a more relaxed and colorful environment rather than a stuffy conference room. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro’s tablet mode is perfect for laid-back web-browsing and fits nicely in my hands.

lenovo-day4 Also, not gonna lie… sometimes my clients run a little late, so I steal those moments to unwind and catch up on my own blog and social media updates!

lenovo-day3 Once my office duties are wrapped up, I drop my mobile business command station (aka laptop) back into my bag before heading to after-hours business functions and eventually home for the rest of the evening. One of the toughest issues with working for yourself is separating business life from home life. And I’ll admit that I don’t always do a very good job at it, but I’m getting better. After I finally pry myself away from email and unplug from social, I use my Yoga 3 Pro to relax and watch old reruns before going to bed.

And there you have it, folks! I had so much fun sharing a behind-the-scenes look into my office space with you guys. Running my own business  has been one of the most fun, scary, fulfilling and overwhelming professional challenges that I’ve ever taken on. Thanks so much to the team at Lenovo and Clever Girls for giving me the tools to help me rise to the task. And thank you for reading!

Lenovo has also offered to do a special giveaway for you guys. One lucky reader will receive their very own Yoga 3 Pro! Just login to Rafflecopter below to enter. The contest closes Friday, April 24th @ 12am EST, and a randomly selected winner will be announced the following week.
