Where: Work
What: Dress ($40 Isaac Mizrahi for Target), scarf worn as a belt ($10 vintage), necklace ($8.50 vintage via eBay), shoes ($25 Guess via Filene’s Basement)
Man, it is tough going back to work after a long vacation! This was my second day on the job, and I was totally beat. I couldn’t wait to get home, but I did muster up enough energy to snap some pics before hopping on the train.
Everytime I wear this dress it reminds me of how much I miss the Isaac Mizrahi line at Target. There were some seriously well-constructed garments in those collections. For instance, this dress is fully lined and comes with pockets and little hidden snaps in the shoulder to hold your bra straps in place—GENIUS!
I usually just wear it with the matching belt that came with it, but I recently purchased a vintage silk scarf that I wanted to incorporate into the outfit. At first I tried tying it around my neck, but then I decided it was just too hot (maybe I’ll try it again when the weather cools down because it was super cute).
The necklace was a great eBay score I made a few weeks back. If you recall last month’s visit to the Hester Street Fair, you know that I drooled over a number of jewelry creations. One of them was this cool vintage mechanical pencil necklace from Corvus Noir. I couldn’t justify spending $84 on a necklace at the time, but a quick search on eBay later that evening yielded a similar piece for one-tenth of the price! Mine even has the original lead in it.
Do any of you guys shop for clothing and accessories on eBay? What have been some of your favorite finds?
yes! the isacc mizrahi line is incredibly missed! there were some fantastic things coming out of that line…
solid outfit!
and I love the red pumps.
On my list of things I’m always on the look out for….
ok first I have a pair of Guess peep toes that are fraternal twins to the shoes you’re wearing here, except I found mine at Ross, not Filene’s. Second, great find with that pencil necklace. Overall, really loving this look – it’s very American and that dress has great shape!
Snaps to hold bra straps in place?! Why hasn’t this caught on? That is genius!…and that necklace is really cute! I love when form meets function!
I know, right! At first, I wasn’t sure what they were for. But then I figured it out and was in love.
Love the necklace… I was just searching for one like that last night 🙂
I love that dress! I’m going to the White House in a few weeks (so excited!) and was trying to figure out what to wear today. This outfit would be perfect!
I have a few dresses that have the snaps to hold bra straps (I think from Ann Taylor a few years ago) and I wish they all came with them. They’re really easy to sew in (just a small loop of fabric with a snap on one end and the other snap sewn to the dress), so I do that if it’s absolutely necessary.
