I actually wore this outfit on my birthday waaaaayyyy back in October and never got around to photographing it. But I thought this outfit was just too good not to share… so better late, than never!

This look is what I would call the perfect mix of high and low. The skirt and top are from Forever 21, and my vintage pillbox hat was thrifted. But what helps elevate the look are these GORGEOUS Valentino suede heels and luxe, but understated, accessories. I think this outfit is a great example of my overall approach to shopping. I tend to spend less on pieces like tops, skirts, pants and everyday dresses, and instead focus on investments in footwear, outerwear, handbags, and jewelry since those items tend to get the most use. I also like to keep an eye out for great finishing touches like unique hats and scarves that I find at various thrift, vintage and consignment shops.

And what about you guys? What’s your shopping M.O.?

From Top to Bottom {Kate Spade Pom Pom Hat + Ted & Muffy Leopard Booties}

I’ve always had a penchant for a nice oversized pom pom hat in the winter (as evidenced here, here and here), so I was beyond ecstatic when my husband surprised me with this one from Kate Spade on Christmas morning. It makes me so happy everytime I wear it, and it’s surprisingly warm. Who knows? I may just go back for another one in pink!

If you follow me on the ‘gram, then you probably noticed me rock these amazing leopard print ankle boots over the holiday break. They are seriously my jam right now, and I’m so thankful to the team over at Ted & Muffy for sending them my way. The chunky heel makes them super comfy, and the leopard print means they go with just about anything and instantly jazz up even the most standard outfits. I can already tell it’s going to be hard to tear them off my feet come springtime. Luckily, that’s still months away! So until then, I’ll be happily prancing all around NYC in these beauties.

Cream Sweater Dress + Hudson’s Bay Scarf

The last time I wore this dress, I went for a neutral look. This time around, I decided to add some color with this cozy scarf that provides a fun twist on the iconic Hudson’s Bay stripe. I first discovered the Hudson’s Bay Company after a trip to Toronto a few year back, and I’ve admired items from the brand’s signature collection ever since. I lucked out and scored this scarf for a song on eBay.

After adding a swipe of red lipstick and a navy wool cap, I was all set to head out last Friday for a trek through Central Park followed by an early dinner with friends. Winter in NYC has been fairly mild so far (knock on wood), and I’ve been savoring every moment of it. I know it won’t last forever, but for now I’m enjoying the fact that I can wear all my favorite winter outfits without being buried under mounds of layers. Let’s hope this keeps up!
