dick·ey

/ˈdikē/
Noun
  1. A false shirtfront.
  2. A folding outside seat at the back of a vehicle; a rumble seat.

While a rumble seat sounds like tons of fun, today’s outfit centers around the first definition.

I’ve had this sweater for a while, but I really wanted to wear it with another shirt layered underneath.  Unfortunately, this sweater is rather thin, so it just wound up looking bulky and weird. Fortunately, I had a eureka moment and remembered an old standby from my days in grade school: the dickey!  At first I wondered if they even sold those things anymore.  A brief web search pulled up some doozies (and elicited some horrified looks from my husband), but my perseverance paid off when I finally settled on this lace-collared number from Forever 21.  I’ll admit, when I first put it on, I immediately recognized that it wasn’t the sexiest thing in the world.  But once I put my sweater on over it, I was pretty much sold.

Stay tuned tomorrow as I further my descent into granny-chic territory by extolling the virtues of pantyhose.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2013!

I hope it’s off to a great start for you all. Here’s a quick rundown of how I spent my New Year’s Eve…

I prefer to be home with the one I love when the clock strikes midnight, but I did manage to get gussied up for an (early) night out on the town.

Enjoying the handsome view and delicious cuisine at SUSHISAMBA… the tempura green beans and lobster taquitos were divine!

A few cocktails later, and I was about ready to turn into a pumpkin! I dozed off watching old Dynasty reruns and woke up at 11:58… JUST in time to watch the ball drop and set off our party poppers (which seemed like a good idea… until we had to clean up the mess).

Check me out on Instagram for more of my day-to-day adventures!

Above is the outfit I wore for Christmas Eve dinner at The Russian Tea Room.  I know, I know… red and green are the traditional Christmas colors, but I received this coat in the mail earlier in that day and was too impatient to wait until Christmas like a good girl couldn’t wait to take it out for a spin.

In other news, I can’t believe this will be my last blog post  for 2012!  I have zero plans this evening other than an early dinner and watching old Dynasty reruns.   Until we meet again, have a safe and happy New Year!
