I’m definitely a city-slicker to the core, but every now and again it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan for a short respite in a more idyllic setting. So this past Memorial Day weekend, Eric and I packed our bags for a quick road trip up the New England coast. Our destination: Bar Harbor, with a couple of fun stops along the way. One of my favorite diversions was the Portland Head Light, a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Completed in 1791, it is the oldest lighthouse in the state and sits on a head of land at the entrance of the Portland Harbor.

Once there, we were treated to phenomenal views, and I couldn’t have asked for better weather with picture-perfect skies and not a cloud in sight. Before we piled back into our ride, we also made a beeline to a nearby food truck to stock up on two Maine staples: blueberry soda and whoopie pies!

Even though Memorial Day traditionally signals the unofficial start of summer, there was still a bit of chill in the air as we trekked up north. Luckily I stuffed my overnight bag full of easy, comfortable layers that I could mix and match (as well as peel on and peel off) during our trip. My long sleeve tee and stretchy ponte knit pants made for the perfect travel ensemble, and my nifty new boater hat and cheery red neckerchief helped pull the look together.

All in all we had a blast, and I can’t wait to share the rest of my adventure with you guys.

Thanks for reading!

Things have been quiet on the blog lately as I’ve been off gallivanting in Hawaii for the past week or so. I know, I know… my life is so hard! But seriously, it’s been awesome to get away for some rest, relaxation, and much needed sunshine. My husband and I are also celebrating our 10-year anniversary (I CANNOT believe it’s been that long!). Stay tuned for more pics from my trip and a full vacation recap coming your way soon.

In the mean time, can we talk about my new bathing suit and how it makes me look like I actually have a waistline?! Trust me, I don’t… especially after a long hard winter full of lots of hot chocolate and macaroni and cheese. Optical illusions aside, I’m completely in love with it. It’s been years since I’ve worn a one-piece, and now I might be a convert. I also picked up a couple of these cute little kimonos from Forever 21 to wear as coverups, and I can’t wait to pick out a few more for summer.

Thrills, Chills and Spills {A Mount Snow, Vermont Travel Diary}

mount-snow-7

To kick off the new year, Eric and I recently headed to Mount Snow in Vermont for a fun-filled ski weekend. Below are some pics we snapped along the way.

I’ve been skiing a handful of times before, but this was my first experience taking actual lessons. Usually I just fumble my way up and down the bunny slopes. Learning proper skills and techniques definitely helped my confidence (if not my coordination) on the slopes.

After a while, I even started to look like I knew what I was doing.  Ok, maybe not so much, but at least I was able to avoid running into things (and small children).

And just when I started to get cocky, THIS happened.

Don’t worry, that’s not me on the stretcher! However, this wasn’t exactly a comforting image to see as I contemplated going higher up the mountain. Fortunately, this skier turned out to be ok. But Eric and I both decided that we’d had enough of the slopes at this point, so we put our skis away in favor of a hot cocoa break and something a little less strenuous…

Snow Tubing!

All Thrills + No Skills = Right Up My Alley!

But seriously, we had a grand ol’ time whizzing down the hill in our inflatable tubes.

Vermont is absolutely beautiful this time of year, and now I can totally relate to why Fitz and Olivia seem to love it so much (yes, I just revealed one of my guilty pleasures). I can’t wait to go back and get some more use out of my new ski gear. Speaking of which…

Stay tuned for an upcoming post that offers tips for newbies on how to pack for a ski weekend!
