With the COVID-19 sweeping the globe, many cities and countries have adopted strict quarantine and shelter-in-place measures that will leave millions of us stuck inside our homes for weeks (or perhaps even months at a time). If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, you know that I love to be out and about every chance I get. Since I’m forced to now become a homebody, I figured I might as well make it interesting. So I challenged myself to come up with a list of 50 things to do from home while stuck under quarantine. And because I’m an over-achiever, that list quickly grew to 75. I stopped short of 100 because no one likes a showoff. 😉
- Join or start a bookclub
- Host a Netflix Watch Party
- Call or Video Chat w/ at least one friend or family member daily
- Write a letter to someone you care about
- Bake something from scratch
- Pick up sewing, knitting or crocheting
- Take a long, hot bubble bath
- Give yourself an at-home mani/pedi
- Take a virtual tour of a National Park
- Try out a new hairstyle and/or makeup look
- Learn a viral dance on Tik Tok
- Donate food and supplies to a family in need
- Sew masks for healthcare workers
- Learn 100 digits of Pi
- Solve a Rubik’s Cube
- Start a podcast series with a friend
- If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog or YouTube channel, DO IT!
- Memorize all the lyrics to a song in a foreign language
- Do a closet purge
- Create a written pantry inventory
- Make a meal plan for the week
- Write down a list of 100 things you’re grateful for
- Binge watch a favorite childhood tv show
- Listen to a guided meditation on Spotify
- Learn calligraphy
- Practice still life photography
- Color, paint or draw
- Rearrange your furniture
- Deep clean your refrigerator
- Do a puzzle
- Start an indoor herb garden
- Make a playlist of your favorite songs from high school
- Take an online course
- Plan your dream vacation
- Imagine what you would do with your life if you were guaranteed not to fail, and write it down
- Listen to an entire album of your favorite artist
- Look through old photo albums
- Back up all of your digital devices (laptop, smartphone, etc.)
- Tour the Guggenheim Museum
- Play a card or board game
- Go through all the pics on your phone and order prints or a photobook of your favorites online
- Look out of a window and daydream
- Turn off the lights, light a candle and watch it burn
- Write a poem
- Practice a foreign language
- Watch a movie with subtitles
- Clean and organize your junk drawer
- Try a new workout
- Have an indoor picnic
- Call that person you’ve been meaning to reach out to, but haven’t had the time
- Watch the Live Cams at the San Diego Zoo or Monterey Bay Aquarium
- If you’re a lefty, try only using your right hand (or vice-versa)
- Sleep in an extra hour (or 2, or 3)
- Sit down, take a few deep breaths and be still
- Have breakfast for dinner
- Try to recreate your favorite restaurant dish
- Write a letter to yourself to read one year from now
- Pick a topic you’ve always wanted to learn more about and watch a few YouTube videos about it
- Practice the KonMari method
- Think about the last argument you had with someone you care about and try to see their side
- Try not to use your phone for 24 hours
- Go to Magic Kingdom
- Take an ice cold shower
- Trace your likeness on a mirror using a dry erase marker
- Make your own skincare products using all natural ingredients
- Hide a $10 bill and/or a note with a positive affirmation in an out-of-season jacket to surprise yourself with the next time you wear it
- Perform a random act of kindness for the next delivery person who brings something to your home
- Listen to a song or watch a movie that makes you cry
