Oh, Canada! {Montreal & Thousand Islands}

Once we left Toronto, it was off to Montreal for a short stay. On our way there, we stopped off for a boat tour of the Thousand Islands – an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River. The ride gave us a great overview of the region, and I can’t wait to take another trip back to explore some of those tiny little islands (especially Pollepel, home of the famous Bannerman Castle) even further.

We were famished by the time we arrived in Montreal, so we strolled through Old Town and found a wonderful French restaurant called Le Vieux Senateur tucked away on a little side street. We mostly spent our time relaxing and taking in the sights in this charming city that can easily make you feel as if you’ve been transported to Europe. And one activity we particularly enjoyed was our excursion to the Parc Olympique where we rode to the top of the Montreal Tower as well as explore the Biodome.

{Nifty-Thrifty} CC’s Guide to Thrift Store Shopping In Manhattan

Thrift-Store-Collage{Suede Fringe Clutch, Bandana Scarf, Vintage Pillbox Hat, Ribbed Cardigan, Vintage Mink Trimmed Coat, Anne Klein Sandals }

I’m definitely a lady who enjoys the finer things in life… However, that doesn’t mean I like to break the bank.  Au contraire!  In fact, most of my best finds have been procured from one of three places: the clearance rack, eBay, or the thrift store.  Over the years, I’ve gotten a few emails from inquiring minds who’d like to know my favorite shopping destinations in NYC.  And since thrift stores are ALWAYS at the top of my lists of recommendations, I thought I’d share the wealth with the rest of you readers should you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods.

I find thrift store shopping in Manhattan to be somewhat of a sport, so I’ll usually spend an entire afternoon pounding the pavement and bouncing around to half a dozen shops or more all in one go. Below are my two favorite thrift store shopping routes to follow when I feel the urge NOT to splurge!

ROUTE 1: Chelsea & East Village

Runnin’ Through the 6 {Toronto Travel Diary}

After our stint in Niagara Falls, Eric and I were off to explore Toronto. I’ve been to Toronto a number of times, but I always find something new to experience while I’m there. While there weren’t any official Drake sightings during our stay, we still managed to have a great time. You can’t tell by the gorgeous blue skies in these photos, but there was a torrential downpour the morning we arrived in the city. Undeterred, we ducked into Ripley’s Aquarium for a couple of hours to wait out the rain. This turned out to be the best decision ever as there was so much to see. I had to be reluctantly torn away from the jellyfish and shark tanks because I seriously could have sat and stared all day.

Once the rain clouds cleared away and the sun poked out, we skipped over to the waterfront for a scenic cruise through the Toronto Islands (but not before grabbing a beaver tail for the ride!). Luckily for us, the weather was picture-perfect for the rest of our stay. We were famished by the time our boat docked early in the evening, so a quick Yelp search led us over to Flock for a casual, yet DELICIOUS, fried chicken dinner with all of the fixings. It was the perfect cap to a relaxing day before hitting the road again to venture further east.
