If someone told me that horizontal striped pants could be flattering a few weeks ago, I seriously would have given them the side eye… but then again I’m a skeptic by nature, so I’ve probably given everyone the side eye at some point. Even when I used to watch Sesame Street as a child, I refused to believe that Big Bird was always that cheerful.  To me, Oscar was the only trust-worthy character on that show…

Ok, back to the outfit!  I was very pleasantly surprised when these pants arrived in the mail.  My narrow hips combined with a full seat and thighs can sometimes make it challenging to find slacks that fit to my liking.  I’ve tried Banana Republic pants in the past with no luck, but their Sloan fit might just be my new best friend.  According to BR’s site, they’re made from a “power stretch” fabric that has “amazing recovery”.  Marketing jargon aside, I will say that the pants do have a nice stretch to them that doesn’t lead to SBS* by the end of the day.

You can believe that I’ll be checking these out in other colors!

So… the million dollar question: How to rock a baseball cap?

As it turns out, you just put it on!

But seriously, I bought this cap many months ago but could never muster up the moxy to wear it. Each time I tried to pair it with an outfit, I’d hem and haw and eventually ditch it before leaving the house.  I eventually gave up and hid my poor little cap away within the depths of my closet.  As luck would have it, it literally fell at my feet while I was digging for a misplaced scarf.  I took it as a sign and decided that today would finally be the day that I gave it a go.

Looking back, I realize that I was totally over thinking it.  And now that I’ve mastered baseball caps, I feel ready to take on my next fashion challenge.  Tune in next time as I take on gold lamé hotpants.

I know, I know… this dress takes animal prints to an extreme, but I love it!  Since my dress makes a pretty bold statement on its own, I decided to go with basic black for the rest of my ensemble.

As much as I love this dress, the real star of this outfit has to be my 3.1 Phillip Lim ’31-Hour’ handbag.  It’s befitting moniker is derived from the fact that it’s designed for those who can fit 31 hours into one day.  As a busy gal who’s always on the go, I definitely have a soft spot for bags that fit all of my essentials (plus a laptop and an extra pair of shoes) but still look polished. This bag fits the bill and then some.   I caught it on sale late last fall, but somehow it’s only made the briefest of appearances on the blog since then (pinky swear that I wasn’t purposely holding out on you guys!).

While it often gets overshadowed by it’s more popular sibling, the Pashli, I actually like the fact that the 31-Hour isn’t as ubiquitous. It’s design is pretty understated, but I’ve honestly never gotten so many compliments on a bag before.  It comes in several colorways, but I fell in love with this color-blocked version that can also be worn in reverse for a different look (yay for two bags in one!).  As you can tell, I’m pretty smitten.  And I’m seriously considering shelling out for a matching 31-minute cosmetic bag which can also double as a pretty chic clutch!
