Travel Diary: The Perfect Fall Day at Bear Mountain

I was born and raised in Detroit and never spent much time in the great outdoors growing up. Once I came to NYC for college, my idea of nature was cutting across Central Park on my to the Metropolitan Museum of Art… and even that gave me allergies. As you can probably tell, I’m a city-slicker through and through. But over the past few years, I’ve started stepping out of my comfort zone and have actually come to love spending time in nature. Eric and I have tried our hands (and feet) at skiing, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, mountain climbing, and more, but I think the major turning point was our trip to Alaska last summer. We had so many WOW experiences during those 10 days that made us truly appreciate all that nature has to offer. Oh, and we also bought a TON of outdoor sports apparel that we now feel compelled to put to good use!

Ausable Chasm {Jumpsuit + Boater Hat}

ausable-chasm-4{Jumpsuit, H&M Sweater, Forever 21 Boater Hat, Ralph Lauren Bag, BORN Sandals}

After a spending a relaxing few days roadtripping through Canada, it was time to head home. But we made time for one last stop along the way: Ausable Chasm. Known locally as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, the chasm is a uniquely-carved, vertical-walled canyon made of 500 million year old rock. If you love the outdoors, then you’ll definitely enjoy spending the afternoon here. There are various trails to explore, and all are easily accessible for beginners. And I highly recommend you try rafting or tubing while you’re there. The rapids are pretty tame and provide just enough of a thrill (for me at least!).

Since we had a long car ride ahead of us, I wore a simple jumpsuit that was as comfy as a pair of pajamas. The trail l through the chasm is pretty easy and well-groomed, so I was comfortable in an old pair of sandals with a well-cushioned insole.

Oh, Canada! {Montreal & Thousand Islands}

aa-thousand-island-3{Liberty of London x Uniqlo Dress, H&M Cardigan, Coach ‘Swagger’ Bag, Salvatore Ferragamo Sunglasses, Soludos Espadrilles (also love these}

Once we left Toronto, it was off to Montreal for a short stay. On our way there, we stopped off for a boat tour of the Thousand Islands – an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River. The ride gave us a great overview of the region, and I can’t wait to take another trip back to explore some of those tiny little islands (especially Pollepel, home of the famous Bannerman Castle) even further.

We were famished by the time we arrived in Montreal, so we strolled through Old Town and found a wonderful French restaurant called Le Vieux Senateur tucked away on a little side street. We mostly spent our time relaxing and taking in the sights in this charming city that can easily make you feel as if you’ve been transported to Europe. And one activity we particularly enjoyed was our excursion to the Parc Olympique where we rode to the top of the Montreal Tower as well as explore the Biodome.
