Closet Confection: Who Says You Can’t Go Home?

DAY TO DAY PERFORMANCE.

It was looooong overdue, but I finally made my way back to Detroit to visit the family. In between stuffing my face with Coneys and hanging out at Hart Plaza, I managed to take a few snaps along the way. I’m still sifting through all of the pics and making edits, but here’s the first batch for your viewing pleasure.

Enjoy!

I’ve been staying on my grind this summer, but I still like to carve out time for a break here and there…

Recently, Eric and I packed our bags and set off for a quick weekend getaway to Massachusetts.  We woke up early Saturday morning, hopped aboard the fast ferry to Salem, and spent the entire day frolicking through this seaside town with a haunted history.   As soon as we disembarked, we made a beeline to Nathaniel’s Restaurant inside the Hawthorne Hotel for delicious stacks of golden pancakes. With our bellies full, we then set out to explore the town by trolley.

Our first stop was the Witch Dungeon Museum where we enjoyed a live reenactment of one of the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Thoroughly spooked, we took a little downtime by ducking in and out of various antique and specialty shops before making our way to the House of Seven Gables for a step back into history.  Visiting old houses and seeing how people lived long ago is one of my favorite pastimes whenever I travel, and the guided tour of this 17th century wooden mansion did not disappoint.

All of our exploring left us with a bit of a sweet tooth, which we satisfied with a little trip to Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie, America’s oldest candy company and maker’s of the once reknowned Salem Gibralters and Black Jacks.  The sugar rush was enough to keep us going as we made our way to the waterfront, where we took in a few more sights including the Friendship of Salem and Derby Wharf Lighthouse before settling in for a relaxing seaside dinner at Finz.
